Best OS exclusively for gaming?

Hello.

I've been looking far and wide, up and down but I can't decide between windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 which is the best choice and what OS version exclusively for gaming and occasionally watching videos with Splash pro or something.

Do you guys have any recommendation? I'm playing mainly MMO games and occasionally games like Just Cause 3, Rise of The Tomb Raider, Dying Light etc.

Windows 7 or 10

Many still prefer windows 7 due to driver support and less bugs/minor issues. You will see an improvement on SSD utilisation e.g. load speed etc in windows 10 however.

I'd go for Windows 10, it supports DirectX 12 and all future games and GPU drivers will be made with this OS primarily in mind.

One thing to note as well is that ROTTR and JC3 are also rumored to have a DX12 patch, which will need Windows 10 to use.

Plus Microsoft are almost forcing 10 upon us, I like it so I'm happy using it. I just despise the lack of driver support for the STX Audio card. the unified drivers dont work properly when using ASIO.

I've had zero issue gaming with Win 10, same goes for 7, 8 and 8.1. DX12 is increasingly moving into developers eyes and starting to be utilised more now for future games, still it's going to be a slow release of DX12 titles especially AAA titles. I'd say either Windows 7, 8 or Windows 10 at the moment but come next year DX12 is going to be a big thing.

As said previously, if it's for gaming you will want to be using W10. DX12 is a major part but as far as my usage for W10, it has been a pretty solid experience!

Wait till GDC. You'll see a lot more DX12 content then:)

But yeah if you are using it only for gaming Windows is really the only way to go.. been that way for years too

Depends if you play new games or older games. If its a mixture/just new stuff you'll be fine going with 8.1/10 otherwise 7 is still the best bet.
