Best laptop maker?

g'day

this is partly just a discussion point but also a question as my friend is looking for a laptop to replace her aging macbook air as it has come into contact with some wine and died. She now wants a ultrabook. Now, because I believe lenovo make the best laptops (I have an archaic think pad that is still going strong)I suggested this in black and orange and daaaaaayum does it look good (for a laptop).

So my question is, who do you think makes the best laptops and why? Also, if you think they do a better lightweight laptop for around £900 then please link it :).

not really into the whole ultrabook thing myself but i hear lots of good things about the new acer aspire s7, so maybe take a look at that

The two I tend to recommend are MSI or Asus laptops as they tend to make most of the parts themselves and they both tend to have good warranties as well

Huh, MSI do laptops? I can't believe I never knew about this lol. To be fair I don't really have an interest in laptops, I'd much rather sit at a far better computer at a desk. I suppose one day I'll get another one, but that will be far away.

Never get an Acer or Packard Bell. Just don't. No. Stop. Don't do it. No.

Okay, now we got that out of the way, the two most respected brands would probably be Asus and Dell (however Dell can be expensive). Of course there's nothing wrong with other brands like MSI, Toshiba, HP and Compaq either.
Personally, I'd be looking at an Asus one though.

Lots of laptops that you can configure to her desired specs. Prices are good too if I'm honest!

PS: That black & orange thing is sexy as ef (talking about the way it looks, no idea how it performs) ;)

I second that. PCSpecialist are great. their customization options are fantastic and their build quality is great.

I've got an Asus laptop, had it for about three years now. Really nice.

I'm not much of a fan of Dell, even the newer ones.

judging by the specs not fantastically (dual core 1.8ghz i7) but yes it is a beaut! My main problem with most ultrabooks is that they just look like macbook pros.

I agree with the PC Specialist call. My friend and I both own a pcspecialist laptop and they have been nothing but great. They even upgraded my friends gpu for free because the usual one was out of stock (650m to a 660m). It can take them a while to build though.

I have a top spec Dell XPS13 and I love it. So far i've had a Dell Studio XPS16 i7-920qm, a MBP13 Core2Duo and an Alienware M14x i7-2670qm with a couple of upgrades. The MBP was awful despite being beautifully made and lovely to behold. The M14x was beast but was about 3.5kg and ate batteries. I love what I have now and wouldn't swap it for anything, beautifully designed and made and the performance and battery life is epic for how thin this thing is. Seriously I play Dirt 2 and do my CAD (solidworks) at Uni on this, on the battery! I hope a haswell version comes along that would be phenomenal.

I had to buy this is a 'small business' to get the spec I wanted, i7-3537u 2.0GHz (3.1GHz turbo), 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, 1080p screen and W8 Pro (with downgrade rights incase I hated it). They gave me quite a big discount, it's always worth asking with Dell, their listed prices are absolutely not their actual prices, i've got 10% off all 3 of mine.
