best cooler for e6600

Hi people

which would you recommend for cooling the E6600

currently i am using the stock cooler and it isn't very good

getting 50c idle

good point

sorry my question was a bit vague

well price roughly £30 , not to bothered about noise, just something that will chill it

i was looking at getting Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 , just interested in what other people would suggest

thanks

I have a Freezer7 Pro and it is brilliant :)

I think for the price it's probably the best value (£14)

I don't run the fan at 100% tho, but the temps are still pretty good idle:36°C load:45°C on a E6400 clocked to 3.2Ghz

that deffo sounds appealing

that is number one on my list unless anyone else can convince me otherwise

did you install yours while the motherboard was in the case, as some people say its hit and miss installing this cooler

what are your thoughts on that, did it fit easily

thanks

Freezer 7 is good, although I myself would get a Scythe Ninja/Infinity

agh, these are the fanless ones, and arn't they quite huge?

double the money, does it provide twice the performance

cheers

Huge but come with a fan (thogh you can run them fanless)

Dunno about twice the performance, but they are very good

ok thanks for that

i will research this cpu cooler

The Scythe Infinity and Tuniq Tower seem to be favorites, along with the Zalman CNPS-9500 or 9700.

If you want more cooling, try water (usually start at about $100 for a kit). A third alternative is the Vigor Monsoon TEC HSF: (review taken off Newegg.com)

"Pros: I own 5 of these coolers and they work great. I keep my E6600 core 2 duo processor at 28 idle to 30 degrees full load.(Edit by TJS: this person probably doesn't overclock more than 100MHz, because I still got about 10-15 C higher than idle when at full load... but still very good cooling.) Even when overclocking the tempature rage stays the same. A very good thermal electric solution with out all the hassle of water sealing componets and installing a watercooling system. Great value compared to other TEC solutions

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The pruduct has recently updated the installation is much easier since they added a new back plate front tentsion thumb screws compared to thier pain rear screws and adheasive bakcplate. you now will beable to remove the cooler and change the prcessor with out removing the motherboard after the first intallation."

I have one and it worked marvelously, achieved 3.7GHz with my E6600. But it also goes for $150, so if price is too high I'd go with one of the first three choices.

cheers for your reply

well, looking at those reviews, the Scythe Infinity if huge, way bigger than i expected, so and looking at the arctic freezer, i will choose this one over that infinity, just because it isn't as huge and the price is cheaper, reviews seem to like the freezer

as for water cooling, i will not be going down that road.. good old fashioned cooling for me

i am not a big overclocker yet, infact evething is running at stock speeds, but i may do some tweaks in the future

the Zalmans are always good, or so i have read

cheers

If you're running at stock speeds then the Artic Cooler will do

I don't see the problem with a big cooler, unless you have a small case/HTPC???

your quite right, but the bigger the cooler the more fiddly it gets in the case i think

also my case has an air duct that is inline with the cpu to channel the cpus heat

i may even have to remove this with the arctic freezer anyway

it seems the best value and performance is the arctic, so i will go for that i think

I got 3 Scythe Ninjas here boxed and w8ing to be fitted, whether they get fanned or not - I`m yet to decide.

Attempt is to claim back some decibels too - so prob try fanless first, although I`m told the Ninja fans are very very quiet.

Kemp is spot on suggesting these.

ok mate cheers

fanless does sound good tho :yumyum:

Looked at that Enzo that Frag suggests, for its size/cooling/noise=one heck of a winner. Can't remember the review site (I saw a lot of HSF reviews, must be a cpu/hsf type website), but they gave it very favorable reviews.
