So i have a budget of £490, maybe £500, so far i have Asus PB278Q 27 inchT Widescreen LED Multimedia Monitor (2560x1440, 5ms, VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort, HDMIfor £482, is there a better one or not? I will mostly be using it for gaming, maybe photo shop

Id maybe lean towards a Yamakasi Catleap monitor, they are very good bits of kit.

I really wouldn't...

There's the runt of the litter. Just the bad panels that aren't good enough for use in LG and Apple Cinema Displays - so you're expected to get backlight bleeding and dead/stuck pixels...
And worst off, as they're based in Korea (I think) you get next to no warranty on them because you can't easily ship them back to Korea...

Stick to big companies like Asus or Dell.

If you're going with a Korean monitor go with the Crossover 27Q, it has way better build quality. It's all metal construction while the Catleap is all plastic and has a very fragile stand. If you want to save some money it's a good choice but you have to be aware that you may get a couple of dead pixels.
I have an Asus PB278Q myself and it's amazing, if you want to spend the full £500 or near enough then go with that or the Dell U2713HM.

Oh really,
Ive got one and next to my LG monitor i cant tell the difference,
No dead pixels, no issues with the backlighting,
and its all dependant on where you buy it, i got mine of amazon and i got a 2 year warrenty.
Quite like Hazro too, i know a lot of people who swear by it.

Asus is releasing 144hz monitors in 24'' class, I'm not sure but it might be at 27'' class as well. Retail expected on the 24'' is gonna be 280$ according to their sales rep at CES13, If this is true, that is an amazing price. I think the cheapest 120hz monitors now are benq and going for 400'ish dollars if ufind a good deal, so 144hz at 280 is... epic. .

i have the dell Dell U2711 27inch 1440p

its an unbelievable monitor only issues ive had with it is i have 3 screens but 2 of them are 1080p i tried running sli with 3 but even when i changed the dell to 1080p it wouldn't work at all... that is nothing to do with the monitor though that's just cause i cant afford 2 more lol

A and A- Panels are 'bad' are they? LOL.

Really? How strange. I have a Yamasaki Catleap in front of me now and I can tell you it's better than any Dell or Asus I've ever owned (bar the stand, which is admittedly, bloody awful in comparison LOL).

But feel free to pay more for a well known brand if it makes you feel all smug and secure

Smug and secure...?

You realise LG make pretty much all the IPS panels, and then sell them to the other companies...
The best panels get put in the Apple Displays, and also sold to Dell and the other big name companies.

The ones that aren't as good get flogged off cheaply to the smaller Korean companies like Yamasaki...

I'm glad you're happy with yours, but compared to the Dell IPS screens, Catleaps will see far more failures due to the fact LG have already judged the screens used in Dells to be better.

So yeah, I would rather pay more.

Which Dell and Asus screens are you talking about?
I'm only comparing IPS to IPS; ie:

If you're saying your Catleap is a higher quality than one of those, then you're completely wrong...

I own the Dell monitor from james' link for about a month and I really like it, imo it's worth spending the extra money to get one from a brand you know and trust

Tbf James having used both types of monitor, the dell was a 27", you can't really tell the difference, the quality level between them is so small that's I found it unnoticeable, also what you say about the quality of the panels may be true, I don't know, but they are still extremely reliable, only have to see how praise they get from people all over the world

Wtf is up with the influx of rude obnoxious tw@s lately?
No point in flaming long term members take your childish ways with you out the door!
