Intro:
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and am building my first gaming rig. I've started looking around for components as I'm sick of my current PC's poor frame rates on 2 year old titles. Poor frames on games Red Orchestra 2 and BF3 make it unplayable at times. I can only blame myself though as I did only spent £200 on the thing. I'm confident I can build it using the annoying experience of my old and current PC malfunctioning.
Current specs:
Motherboard:Gigabyte g31m es2l
Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz
Memory:4GB RAM
Videocard:AMD Radeon HD 6790
Main HDD:Seagate 1TB 7200 64mb Cache
Build
I have around £800 for the build and hope to be able to run new games such as BF4 and Titanfall at high graphics and frame rates when they're released. I won't be going over the £800 mark as I have to also spend around £100 on a decent 1080p monitor. (currently using a monitor with a max of 1280 x 1024)
So the build itself is looking like this so far;
Case:Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£73.98 Novatech)
Motherboard:ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (£101.15 Amazon UK)
Processor:Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£169.99 Aria)
CPU Cooler:Corsair H80i (£75.08 Amazon UK)
Memory:Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£55.97 Amazon UK)
Videocard:Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (£200.00 Scan)
Main HDD:Seagate Barracuda 2TB (£63.54 Aria)
Power Supply:Corsair CX 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Total:£789.69
I planned it using PcPartPicker. Are these prices good and are they good sites to buy from? Here's the link to the build on PcPartPicker http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1zg9R
What do you guys think about the build? Is it all compatible, will it meet my desires and have I left anything out?
Just a few questions
I've never overclocked my components but want to learn as I've heard from many people (including Tom) tell me if you don't overclock you're wasting potential. I'd like to achieve a relatively moderate overclock around 4Ghz. Is that possible for a novice and is the cooler decent enough?
Is the graphics card up-to-scratch for games soon to be released? Wasn't sure on the 660ti, 670 or the amd cards. Budget for the graphics card is £200.
And finally is the motherboard compatible and up-to-scratch? Will I be able to overclock the cpu easily enough?
For those who have read the whole post, thanks and please contribute. I hope to receive some help and constructive criticism in order for me to complete the build. Sorry for so many question and if the post is in the wrong place. Hope to have it built by the end of October. (hopefully sooner)
Cheers, Ben!
