Benefits Of Dual Channel?

Right now, nothing really... Other than future-proofing. There will be a point at some time where the enhanced bandwidth ability of dual channel will become a very significant factor in overall performance and speed.

Currently ram doesn't operate fast enough to render the actual need for the dual channel technology. On AMD based systems there's a 5% increase in performance which is un noticable in real world tasks and only a slight number increase in benchmarks.

cool. neva knew although i had a small idea that it wasnt being properly utilised. cheers frag, reppies :)

Actually Dual Channel right since the NF2 boards has been giving a nice boost to the performance of AMD processors. Intel also benefits but not much . But run an NF2 board without dual channel and one with it and you will know the difference. The main reason that dual channel's benefit isnt apparent between socket 754 and 939 boards is becoz of athlon 64's on die memory controller's efficiency. Try running a socket LGA 775 without dual channel and see how bandwidth starved your system becomes. IMHO , Dual channel is one of the best things that happened to computers because after the slow death of RDRAM , the faster processors were becoming bandwidth starved more and more.

It does bebefit AMD64 and P4 systems (im woprkin on a storage FAQ that ill put up now (although miles under done)

So what about a laptop with a centrino 740 processor, is dual channel on that not a big deal?

If so what is the point of it being on a system like that?!!

EDIT--------------

Update, i have 2gig dual channel (2x1gig ddr2 533mhz) running and well i dont reall yhtink the dual cahnnel is making al the diff, its just haign more ram is making my system soo much more stable.
