hi wanting to know where is the

best and cheapest place to rent a battlefield 2 server from.

if any1 can help that will be great. thx in advance. ;)

probably multiplay.co.uk for ranked servers in the UK. they are actually quite cheap for 20man last time i checked.

inx-gaming have quite a nice network. so do 4u-servers.co.uk. Test out some of them - for unranked it seems to be about £50 per month for 32 man. It's 67ppm for multiplay ranked.

nice 1 for that ill have a look. ;)

Only 2 authorised hosts for UK ranked servers last time I checked, MPuK are selling them very cheap tbh, you may find them else wear cheaper but the quality wont be there.

I've spoke to Craig (Wizzo) about their BF2 servers and they are top notch! (we use the same hardware as the now due to their recommendations!)

If you go unranked, dont go for 4U, their network isnt that great imo, INX are sound tho, I often speak with them, really clued up, decent servers (same as myself and MPuK) and a decent network setup!

TBH, I've always found the speed of the 4U network to be ok - they seem to have faster transit for me (from home, not uni) than rapidswitch. Same as inx for me though - maybe they have a better link to BT ADSL?

Anyway, Olly at Inx was very helpful when i asked about their colo slots and knew a lot (unlike alphanetworks maybe). efrag seem to have stodgy reliability.....and definitive gaming eh well - avoid :)

Then again, I've heard that ammobox networks isn't so bad either ;)

P.s. axer - what is the site for the UK ranked bf2 provider on Rapids network?

Chris, I honestly can’t remember the website URL or company name, I have seen it though, iirc its quite expensive though :(

With regards to connectivity, BT traffic is *usually* pushed over Level(3) or Above.net (I think), it’s a bit stupid that its not exchanged at peering points really – it would be cheaper and quicker than going over Tier-1 providers! It’s strange that you’re finding things better with 4U though; Rapid has probably one of the largest networks in the UK (over 7Gbits of external throughput capacity!) I used to be one of their customers but moved a while ago due to some support issues I had (a box in our network was the victim of a DDOS and Rapid powered it down refusing to turn it back on unless we could guarantee it wouldn’t happen again (how could we, it was a one off, random, attack from thousands of remote sources, its impossible to investigate – even more so when they have no router logs for me!))

ok - as long as its expensive we don't care about it :)

ouch on the support though - they should've been a bit more helpful really.

btw, is tsnglobal spanktastic and where you are now? I dunno - I guess you know more about the performance than i do so are they ok? (lol, still trying to persuade clan-members to cough up enough money for a colo+dedicated server over 18months)

p.s. I'm cah on forum2.

Chris,

Yes I'm with TSN at present. We have a rack and a fibre drop with them :) The move to TSN was 'rushed' and was rushed because I had a server offline that needed to go up quickly (due to the Rapid problem) as I had a good relation with staff at TSN I trusted investing into their network.

The first few months there were some problems, several major / minor DDOS attacks that caused some problems, DDOS attacks happen, not much you can do but when they are happening often its not good for business, after kicking up a lot of fuss I found out the victim of the DDOS attacks was a shell provider on the network (at the time TSN had no rules about ircd's + adult content hosting - the prime DDOS targets) now they have added some rules to the network things are a lot better!

If I was to move again, it would be to Burstfire, they are a decent bunch of guys who have a very good network and are very dedicated, but then you pay a bit more (but i prefer quality over price to be fair)

Hi Chris,

I spoke to Chris from Netrino a while ago (about the same time I spoke to Burstfire) they seem to be a nice company, have a good setup etc, although to be honest we didn’t quite go into the detail I did with maxeh from Burstfire (he phoned me and spent about 2hours going through stuff with me - that’s what I call service!)

You'd be best off trying to find one of their customers for a better review of them though. The offer they have is very nice, I would contemplate signing up but we don’t have hardware capable of running BGP sessions and obviously I cant drop my TSN transit to test someone else’s as TSN are the ones announcing our IP’s ;) (PA space as apposed to PI – I cant justify my own block yet)

One thing I would say though is that they dont seem to peer directly with LiNX exchange (the best peering point for the UK) however Rapid do, so perhaps they take routes from Rapid for LiNX peering?

yeah, precisely - if enough people on here try it out we might get more than 5 people paying.

Well, as ya know dazboots i'm 100% there when we find a server to get this gaming lark going :)

just need to get better at shooting ppl with sniper rifle hehe

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNND as for flying heli's i'm getting better at flying with keyboard ;) but landing then is a all other ball game for me hehe so be warned ppl ... DONT jump into the heli with me at the cockpit :)

Count me in Daz but gonna have to wait till the end of the month for my share, if you are still looking for peeps :)

Out of interest who is the server host ?

oh no. please don't say thegamemonsters.com.

I have never found any of their servers to be very good. High pings, and really slow laggy gameplay. I also remember most of their .co.uk servers suddenly disappeared probably at the request of EA a while ago.

The quality of server seems to be much worse than multiplay and that's pretty bad at that. Ok, that was definitely true 3months ago but they were so bad then that I haven't gone back.

Have you played on their servers recently?

Axer: did EA actually give them a UK license?
