first off sorry, couldn't resist the topic title.

right onto business, i was for my birthday bought a years subscription to avast internet security (version 7).

all went well then i started noticing the prolonged periods of time it took for my rig to shut down. eventually the rig refused to shut down at all requiring a manual override (my finger on the power button)

it also (despite me configuring the firewall) reports in my p2p program that the port is not properly open, despite knowing it worked before avast (windows firewall) and avast is configured correctly.

when i uninstall avast, everything works tickety-boo again. does anyone have any ideas as to what i have missed or do i just waste the years license? cos don't think avast will give me a refund seeing as i didn't actually purchase it

also i have pre-ensured that there is no microsoft security essentials installed and that whilst using avast the windows firewall was disabled

I have avast free edition and don't get that issue (although it probably explains the slightly slower shutdown speed - but I am talking about 5secs only!)

I tried Avast when I was trying to screen for Malware when the site was being attacked.
Insta-froze my computer. I'll keep to MSE from now on.

i went MSE just to keep the nag screen off (i know you can disable the alerts) just for
freebieness.
so far no real threats or malware poop yet.

I only use MSE, that's because i know, or atleast i'd like to think i do, when a site is malicious and not access it. I don't really need any über mega AV of the year software.
