ATI's next GPU to be a 360 clone

It seems ATI have decided to implement fully the features of the Xbox 360 chip into their next gen.

With the advent of Vista and the GUI needing the GPU to constantly be in use ATI have decided that Unversal vortex and pixel pipelines is the way to go. This would mean that the card can dedicate all of its spare resources to whatever it needs to process.

Missing from the desktop chip is the E-DRAM chip. This is thought to be far too difficult to program for on the desktop I think that with dedicated graphics memory it wont be needed in all honesty.

The chip will ship in time to catch the advent of Vista and DirectX 10 - ATI are wanting to be ahead of the market and be the first to fully support it and make Vista look as nice as it can.

What do you think? Wise move or waste of time?

Sounds like a good move, but i doubt many ppl will be in a hurry to upgrade their GPU's just for the sake of a better looking desktop.

Hmmmm if I ever decide to move to Vista it will mean a lot of cash.

New GPU (which probably wont be AGP) = new motherboard = new processor + new ram = probably new PSU too.

Bloody Microsoft!
