ATI Overtaking Nvidia In Graphics Sales

I am green at the mo but if red has a good single core solution when i'm next building i'll give them a go.

I'm sure that if you looked at the actual cards that are selling it would show the good bang for your buck cards are the best sellers by far since not everyone buys the top end cards.

well if nvidia dont go under it will be interesting to see the next batch of cards.

For some reason, if u want to buy a particular GTX280 card, u could have issues. I looked last night and although a handfull of etailers list 20 or so of the cards, merely 1,2 or 3 of the cards are in stock eVga/Bfg/Inno3D mainly. Saw an XFX earlier in the week.

If the cards arent there, how can u buy them ? People like myself who would perhaps prefer an XFX will not buy one of the other 3 and w8 for the stock to come in. Other people will see the cards aren`t available and buy ATI.

It`s good ATI have jumped in with their dual card, even the single 4870 performs excellently, especially per costing. (I`d not get one, but hey).

Good for competition I hope, nVidia have had it far too easy for too long - held back imo.

Sales probably equals units shipped, but that`s besides the point. (and we`re quoting Fud ?)

i've noticed the same thing rast, only evga ones in at scan, they're not happy with bfg apparently and are still awaiting stock and replacement stuff.

overclockers got "10+" of whichever cards they have in stock this week (at last) lol

i think i'll be picking up an evga 280gtx SC :)

(then slaving my 8800 for physx yey)

The market has really shifted, it's pretty much Red all over atm. Be it the low end or top end.

I'll probably add to their sales myself in the form of a HD4870 depending on what things are like around christmas.

Maybe Nvidia will get off their asses and stop rehashing.

It seems that nvidia think that if they re-brand often enough the consumer will think that it's actually a new product. ;)

Well both red and green were in court due to fixing the market with both new product release and price, so they both as bad as each other.

It's nice to see AMD/ATI getting a foot ahead this time around. I purchased ATI this time around (2x 4870's) as they were incredible value and performance wasn't too far off the mark. Hopefully this trend will continue for the long term and AMD's Deneb sees a significant reduction in the deficit between Intel in the CPU market. Competition is always good...I hate one-sided battles

Got a bit of a conspiracy thing to think about.

Talking about how nVidia, since the grand release of the 8800 GTX/Ultra cards, seemed to be dragging their heals for the sake of it, on the back of having such a large performance advantage - there really wasn`t any need (financially) to release something new that cained the existing cards.

So slowly slowly they drip fed the market. ATI do a job of catching up, probably working pretty hard whilst going about it, using the best ram available etc.

nVidia (which I personally expect tbh) are quite ready to blow the market away with a grand card.

But then we should think about what the current games run like with existing cards, and what place would there be for a card 5x (not 5%) better than a GTX280. It would surely be like playing an old Doom game on a modern card - extreme headroom that never gets used. So the upd8d cards look to see what`s out there game wize and are released to cope whilst keeping 1 eye on the competition.

Imo, they have release creme cards to developers. Special builds that are purely from labs, never to be released versions of cards that will come out at some point. The more power u have for developement the better. Let`s say something that runs like a GTX280x2 (GTX200 or whatever) at a point where 8800GT is the card to be released.

We ever wonder how the likes of Crysis when it came out was expected to run on the hardware available at the time ?

I'm glad ATI have put a foot ahead this time, it's great for the industry

I am, however, yet to see a card I want to get to replace my 8800 GTX G80

That was part of the case against them was it not.

I would like to see a single GPU solution that could run Crysis maxed at 2500 x ...... res.

It will appear on the scene, maybe in 12 to 18 months.

Nvidia needs to respond to the ATI advances.

I look forward to seeing the games that will be released that look ultra realistic.

Games keep getting more complex so more powerful card solutions need to be created. I don't think there is a ceiling to the advances.

That`s the thing see. I personally think if nVidia`s business depended on it, they could release a card that could wipe the floor with a GTX280 in tri sli.

They "can" do it, imo, but are not doing it. BUT as ATI have upped the scales (credit to them), the GTX3xx series "could" be incredible.

Just fooling ourselves tho. A GTX3xx will just beat a 4870x2 by 5-10%, use a GTX280 gpu and perhaps ddr5.

Kemp`s hit the nail on the head tho. Investment for the last 5 years has been the 8800 GTX/Ultra. Couple that with a P35 chipset and perhaps a Q6600 w/4g and u have no real need to complain.

i have to agree here, it's nice to finally get some competition running, i have just funded the green by picking up a 280, my 88gts640 is feeling a little dated and i'm pretty sure the shaders are buggered :( (any frame with water in in crysis seems to slow to a crawl) but i'm hoping it performs well as a physx card as a slave.

looking forward to installing this frigging monster card that arrived on my desk about half an hour ago?! it's insanely massive lol,

i have nothing against ati, i remember the 9800se (oc'd and flashed to pro) days they were awesome cards and nothing could touch them :D *sigh* and they were awesome in nearly all games that were out at the time.

it seems now they just release the bare minimum to beat the competition. instead of just completely anihilating the games that are out, although i imagine it's a little harder with the current high spec needing games.

but tbh they were releasing/ making videos of crysis gameplay which just looked immense so they MUST have had the power available to them? why can't we have it?!

i'd have liked to get a 4870x2 but the dual gpu benefit doesn't appeal to me. i'd rather have the single gpu bang for buck tbh. and i prefer physx stuff... looking forward to a glitch free UT3 tbh.. *crosses fingers*

but competition is great for us :) tbh nvidia have 90 days to kick something new out otherwise i'll be miffed :P (evga step up)

i guess we'll see

what settings you using to get that 3.6 mate? i've only stuck mine at 3 for now, not really had the time to venture further

same mobo and stuff, with 8500 ram :)

i reckon that system's pretty solid :P but i shall pwn j00 with my new 280 :P mwahahaha
