ATI Crossfire - looking nice!!

The new ATI crossfire lineup is looking like a damn tasty alternative to nvidia's SLI - especially as all current pci-e ati x-series cards are supported so long as you buy the appropriate crossfire card...awesome!!!

Initial stock benchies with prototype reference board (all on air with a 4000+ a64) - http://www.firingsquad.com/features/computex_2005_day_one/page3.asp

If ati's chipset is as good as nvidia's me wants :) especially as i wont need to sell my current x850xt :D

Yeah looks good.

But apart from the obvious profiless design, and the fact that all games 'should' gain the advantage - there is no real difference between that unit and the Nvidia NF4 offering.

Although I have to say there are lots of user friendly parts to the crossfire package which I personally like.

Its the same old story though, need new motherboard etc.... HAving just upgraded I doubt I will change unless of course it's 50% faster than anything else and overclocks like a russion weightlifter on steroids!!

Nvidia have sold well over 500 000 units already this year of the NF4 SLI chipset and god knows how many 6800 cards already.

I fear that for many the switch from SLI to crossfire will be less than desireable unless of course the system really is that much better.

Also consider that we are not that far away from the intermediate release of the 6900 or 7800 series cards and all ATI have done at this point with crossfire is catch-up.

this is true, but also consider that the r520 to the best of everyones knowledge is already finished...ati have admitted its releasable but on hold atm purely whilst they pump out units for the xbox360....crossfire is a main feature of the r520...so theyre simply laying down the infrastructure for the next gen cards.....nvidia already has sli out, so they simply need to finish their chip :)

Plus im sure ati will wait and see what the g70 does before releasing a better alternative as usual ;)

Il take which ever costs/performs in the best ratio cos im tight :D

Crossfire in collaboration with macci and a few -85C cascades has taken the top spot in 3d 2k5, breaking 15k for the first time.

He's obviously going to take 03 and 01, he has over 900MHz on the core (!!!!!) but is making us wait as always!

15k in 05 is mightily impressive, but so is a 900mhz clock core speed and -85 degrees cooling  .

I can't wait to see the other results, keep us updated.

@Vrykryl - Thats marketing speak from ATI to say it's not ready yet but we have a really good excuse, here's some engineering samples to keep you going.

I hope that the manufacturers are learning from previous errors and supply issues that we have all suffered recently (Winchester, 3.4 and 3.2 Ghx Prescotts, 6800's, X800XT's even FX55)

Like most things new they are in demand, surely they must all now realise this and bulk manufature prior to release.

Does anyone know whether the G70 will be the 7800 ultra or a lower end card like a 7600? Anyway I don't think I'm going to run dual cards anymore..

Does anyone know why they are doing it the way they are (new mobo, master/slave cards with 'specialist' masters - v. hard to find) When I first read about this - the ATI boys stated that the ARM ability was built into most of their cards, and could be unlocked in future bios mods - now they've backpeddaled and we're all expected to buy new hardware - what are they playing at?
