ASUS Striker Extreme + CPU

mates wantin to get rid of his AMD gamin setup (965 c3) and go for a 775 one and i said if its just gamin then he could go for an e8xxx series cpu as i heard tom sayin his would kill quads in games (cause of his oc having a 500fsb?) and he said sounds intresting, so how would that cpu pair with the afore mentioned m/b and is the striker extreme good at overclockin? so he can manage something up to those scores? cause he might be gettin one on the cheap, and was thinkin of pairing it with a q6600 until i mentioned that

cheers dudes

I have a q6600 @ 3.6 (450*8) on the striker 2 extreme. Its a really good board for overclocking tho I reckon the dual core would prob be better

The quad would probably be better in games that support 4+ cores (e.g. GTA IV)

he decided against gettin it and just left it till he finds something better, said he might look into gettin the same m/b as me

ive had my cpu to 3.51ghz without much of a massive fuss and it will easily go higher than this easily

i think its going to be for a single gpu he's got a zotac gtx 260 216, he has 2 but one is in his other rig

think he might have a £200 budget for cpu and mobo second hand once he sells his AMD set up, wants it to be DDR2 aswell also the m/b should be a really good overclocker

so an ideal m/b and cpu pairing would be great advice :)

I dont think there is such a thing

Id take a look at the p5q premium and either an e8400 (should do 500fsb) but he will need proper cooling dude, a small water loop would be best tbh, and the NB will get toasty at those clocks too. When you start talking about overclocking cooling is the key.

The other CPU to look at is the E8500, both can be found used pretty easy.

Tell your mate cooling cooling cooling for stable high clocks ok

he's got a watercooling loop in the pc already so thats not a problem mate, ill get him to add in a n/b to the loop

is there a massive difference in the 3 revisions for the e8400? i think its C0 and E0?

ok ill let him know the e8500 is the best, thats a new cpu so there isnt any revisions? and what kinda n/b cooler would u recommend? ill get his full watercoolin loop details so u can have a look over that aswell
