ASUS ROG Z170 Lineup Revealed

Woo, going away from the red/black plague that is everywhere. Good ol' Asus! Please do more all black motherboards though.

I don't max out my 8GB of ram unless I do stuff with virtual box (I currently have 8VMs which need 2GB each of ram so I can't use them all at the same time). I don't need a billion tabs open/loads of extensions in chrome and I run a pretty clean ship in terms of software that is running in the background. If you're idling and using more than 1.5-2gb RAM something isn't right IMO :D

I'm liking the more understated look of the motherboards. The red on the previous boards was overbearing at times.

Yeah it seems like msi caught the bug, that godlike mobo is just horrible.

I quite like these, they would look good with some proper lighting in the case, it would make the red accents stand out enough for the whole thing to look balanced.

So what colour ram would go well with this?

Probably something mostly black with accents of red, or just plain black.

I wouldnt want to put a full red memory stack in there.

What about that Hynix RAM? Not sure if they did DDR3 modules though (assuming that's what z170 will still be using?).

Too tall for my taste - it looks great in itself though! Z170 is DDR4 btw.

Can you stick a Quad channel kit in the dual channel Z170? I'm thinking yes.

Yeah quad and dual channel RAM are not actually a thing, it's just that they're shipped as either 2 or 4 dimm kits. The actual technology behind it is done by the motherboard :)

A quad channel kit just means that its tested and rated as a set of 4 DIMM's. Two pairs of the same speed are not guaranteed to run together in quad channel (ie. on X79 or X99) at their rated speed although they most likely will.

So putting a quad channel kit in two pairs will be fine.

Awesome, that expands the number of possibilities significantly. A nice high speed low latency quad kit appeals to me. Overclockers UK is starting to take dual channel kits pre-orders.

You reckon 16GB to be enough for gamers for the next five years? I'd think do.

I might actually check one of these out for my next build, loving the gun metal and red look. It's funny as most other makes are going more towards red and black, and the people who are famous for it, have moved on to a fresh new look that looks very slick.
