ASUS ROG Strix Gaming RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti Review

Good review, as always.
Can't help by wonder why you didn't included the Strix 1080Ti OC in these tests?
And i'm still going to wait on more tests before even considering placing an order.

I like the ASUS kit but Tom you're spot on. The premium on this thing is ridiculous especially when compared to the MSI for example.

The other thing that's mad is that for that price they couldn't even braid or blackout the connector cables that dangle out the side of the cooler.

Poor show ASUS, poor show indeed!

Considering they use automatic assembly now you'd think the price would decrease if there's less wages to pay.

They're £200 more than MSI trio and not enough ahead in performance to justify that and the MSI cards look just as good now, I've always admited I'm an Asus fanboy but if I was looking at selling 1 of my testicles or both to get 1 of these i'd go MSI and a good sized M.2 to go with it

I have got to agree with the Guv on the pricing on these . I know i'm a bit of and Asus fan ,and it looks like they have done a pretty good job on these with performance , but for me 1500 of my hard earned pounds is just too much to swallow

“They'll be no triple SLI setups here unless motherboards see a wholesale redesign.”

Well ... that and the fact only 2-Way through NVLink is supported :-)

Do you really think they'll stop being absurd prices? Do you really think they'll be dropped by £400+ by Q1 2019 when Pascal stock is likely gone?

I get the feeling V2 is close by which will allow them to drop pricing of these RTX.

Its almost like a cheeky model, pushing the latest cards at outrageous pricing knowing the high end "rich b**tch" will pay what they want, and then fool the consumer by dropping the previous version to the price it should have been in the first place.

Many will then jump on the RTX version 1 wagon. It's like you are forever chasing the leader.

Yeah, I think so too. I think consumers will be hard to forgive that though.

VERY good point

Totally agreed with everything in your review.

For me though if I get a couple of 2080 Ti cards it will be something along the lines of the Asus Strix as I will be using them on air and will probably want to sell them quick when the inevitable Turing Titan shows up. If I use cards on air having a very good cooler is really important, if I just used the cards for gaming then an average cooler would be fine.

The asking price though is a total joke and doing Asus no good in reputation, value for money, lost sales and even the quality of build materials when compared to something like an EVGA Kingpin card is lacking.

Having said that I did have an Asus 1060 Strix and thought that was a great card if a bit overpriced.

£1500 ? Hahahahahahahaha, Asus and Nvidia have finally done it, They've lost their marbles.

Asus definitely !!!

NVidia no, they are undercutting the Strix by £400 with the FE cards lol.

It is not often you can recommend buying direct from NVidia and get value for money, if £1099 can be considered value.

The worrying thing about the price structure at the moment , is when the high end 2080ti get released i.e Kingpin/Lightning/Hall of Fame and even the Poseidon are we going to be looking at a cost of 2k for a graphics card , and god know if and when the titan turns up maybe even higher

I suspect the asking price of the normal 2080 Ti cards is going to be forced down by people not wanting to pay that much.

When the above happens I think we will see Kingpin/Lightning/Hall of Fame cards at around the £1500 mark.

Having said that AIB partners need to be quick in getting any Kingpin/Lightning/Hall of Fame type cards onto the market as I think we could see the early release of a fully enabled Turing Titan at around £1500.

A comedian was once asked what it took to be a comedian.

He said "Take a bag of marbles and a Jacobs cream cracker. Make a hole in the cracker, and put your willy through the hole. Then simply say "Good evening ladies and gentlemen", swallow a marble, and push your pelvis forward.. When you have lost all of your marbles and you're still f*****g crackers you are a comedian".
