ASUS' ROG Ally Flagship variant gets priced at $699 in the US

i also thought it would be higher, might be something i get in the future when it's dropped a bit time will tell but it does have a little more power than the steam deck, but saying that if you could put steam os onto it i'd be happier so we'll see.

Question is how well it plays games compared to the Steam Deck's Linux implementation.

I'm looking at Switch emulation especially. With a 120Hz screen, this thing could become THE way to play on the go. I also expected an extreme ASUS tax like you guys. Hopes are high!

I am tempted.

If Microsoft was smarter, they would get in on this handheld craze. They could develop a lean gaming variant of Windows and make a handheld PC. But they are not that smart or forward looking, so they won't.

Most people would switch to that OS instead of full windows. I know I would

well idk if they are or not but they are developing a small gaming os for these devices thats windows based with a more basic UI think of it as windows lite but for only the needed items to run games.

I remember this. It's not made by Microsoft.

Update: The developer behind this Microsoft Hackathon project posted a message on Reddit last year saying that they were gaining "some support" for the project and asking for feedback. Today, they posted a new comment stating that the project "didn't go much of anywhere" and isn't something currently in development at Microsoft.

fair enough but for the ally to be really good it needs steam os i feel and most likely can be done in some way without much issue, would be more down to driver support etc but i expect someone will work out a way for it to run.

At these prices it's hard to go lower, but the ally is about 50% more powerful, but with windows it'll be annoying to use not as geared towards handheld as the steam link is, but then maybe valve will go 2.0 hard to say or maybe they will lower the price of the deck at which point either is good value.

I'd get one but i've spent alot this week so best to pay some things off more lol

As a fairly new steam deck owner, this is exciting to see. The only thing I'm fairly sure I won't be a fan of is Armoury Crate and an almost certain disdain for right to repair/tinker compared to Valve.

Overall though, competition is awesome and PC gaming on the go is brilliant. Can't wait for this and the eventual Steam Deck 2

You can disable AC in the bios. It's sickening that you have to, but it's in there now. Same thing with Gigabyte's app center which WILL install Norton if you let it.
