I think that is just a marketing thing,and the Thunderbolt is useless

Apparently its supposed to improve on the overlocking of the original Rampage III extreme

i seen it on scan.co.uk for £383.50, its a tempting upgrade for me but i decided im going to wait for the 1366 replacement to come out until then its save save save for me

Hi Guys,

A little off topic but i am having a really hard time trying to decide whether to purchase a Gigabyte G1 Assassin or the ASUS Rampage III Black Edition for a new X58 build (990x).....

This will be primarily used for gaming. i intend to mildly OC the rig to 4.xx for 24/7.. I might for fun try to push it to its peak to see what i can get out of it, but this will probably be a one off exercise.

For me the Gigabyte will cost $560AUD ( Which at this moment in time equates to the same in US $) , the Asus will cost $630 ... Money does not impact my choice but i am a bit of a Gigabyte Fanboy But most reviews have the Asus in front so im just trying to decide if i want to switch sides...

Just wondering what your thoughts are ?

I think you should go for which ever one has the color you want, if you don't mind going green go for the gigabyte boards from what I've read they seem to be the best

After reading and watching reviews both seem to be great boards. The rampage 3 is a tried a tested platform. Tom says the gig board is great. Agree with above. Color choice. Or if you like getting the separate xonar card. Nvidia card would look great on either board

I don't know much about the gigabyte board, but I own the rampage 3 extreme with a 990x on it. This mobo is absolutely beautiful, and it will offer a HUGE amount of features (from bluetooth oc'ing to dual bios and much more). I also run the NH D14 cooler, and the whole combination works great. I'll be happy to post some pics if you want to see what to whole thing looks like IRL.
