ASUS Rampage Extreme Issue

My brand new ASUS Rampage Extreme Motherboard worked great for six weeks then supposedly memory (Patriot Viper 1333) one stick went dead playing Crysis and Ghost Recon 2. Today I cannot get the power to stay on, when I try to start PC power starts and shuts right off. I do not know if it is the power supply or the Mobo. I clear cosmos, hit reset, and still power starts and stops. Any suggestions?

If any body has any suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you, Cutter.

Try taking one stick of RAM out at a time, leave a certain one in. That will determine which stick is faulty (if one is at all). Then you can return the faulty RAM to the vendor and get a replacement. :)

Best of luck. :)

How did you conclude that a ram stick was dead?

Try stripping the rig down:

1 ram stick in DIMM 1

1 GPU if your running SLI

try booting.

check drivers if you get bsod.

Updating the bios is always a good idea but DONT DO IT IF YOU DONT HAVE AN UNSTABLE SYSTEM

Check your CPU cooler is seated correct, it may be overheating and auto shutdown.

Check all power leads for a lose connection

That should keep you busy for a bit :)

Hi cutter. Try removing the motherboard (to eliminate a short) and then everything from the motherboard (including the processor). Then start to add each component back and see if the problem still persists. I very much doubt it's your RAM too. If the problem persists, then it may be RMA time as I had exactly the same thing happen to mine. My Rampage Extreme would power on and then instantly power off. I think it's a short in the power delivery components - MOSFETS.

failed motherboard

Thank you. I plan on taking out the Mobo and assembling the bear minimums to see if it is the power supply or the Mobo. I have had the Mobo only 4 1/2 weeks. I thought it was longer. Newegg has not told me if I can get a replacement. ASUS wants me to RMA board, said they will fix. I want new one.

Thank all of you for your help and suggestions. Will keep you informed on outcome. Again, thank you. Cutter:wavey::wavey:

Hey All, new here to this forums. I'm having the same exact problem with the Asus Rampage Extreme and so is my friend that has it too. have you found what causes it on the Rampage Extreme? is it a defect in the design of the board? Mine only lasted about a week and my friend's mobo lasted a little over a month.

Be glad to hear hows yours doing now. :)

Sincerely,

Kaganader

I'm sorry to hear that your motherboard has issues too Kaganader. I have seen a number of posts on the web now since mine died that leads me to believe that the board has a flaw/issue with power delivery. My suggestion would be to request an RMA immediately.

Personally, I`d always try seeking action through NewEgg b4 resorting to ASUS via RMA.

A store/e-shop may well give u a quicker turn around.

Store dependent ofc. For example, I`d go to Scan with a fault issue b4 I went to a manufacturer.

4.5 weeks ? Is not that long.

Will newegg not allow you to return and swap for an alternative board? All these Extreme's dying on OC3D alone is not a good sign :s

If not exchange.. try credit/refund and select ur own.

IF there are flaws with the mobo on a widespread basis, it`ll fuel an arguement.

Well I think that there are too many cases now for it to be considered an isolated incident or confined to a select few boards.

Good option if Newegg allow it

asus my a#s RMA

Hi, well NewEgg would not take my board back .[over 30 days] So I RMA, ed ASUS ,I don't know if they fixed the problem ,they keep the mobo for 20, days . Could not find out what they did ? It looks like they put two heat sinks on right rear of board. I have not been able to find out no matter how hard I try. I have riped lmy case apart and plan on installing a Boreas 12Tech Chiller with Swiftech's north bridge and CPU cooler blocks. Also, am looking for a MOSFET block cooler and a 280GTX cooler. I will not know if the board works until I rebuild my case, getto build. I do suggest if you have this board within a 30 day period, return it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Cutter:mad:

Hey cutter would you mind taking a photo or two of the heatsinks that you say ASUS has put on the back of the motherboard for me please? Feel free to upload them to our upload facility here

Asus motherboard

Here are some pictures of the motherboard. I think they added a heat pipe and their air cooled heat sink to the right rear of the board. See attached pictures. Cutter

Erm cutter I think you forgot to add a link to the images. I look forward to seeing them when you return

Well as of now my RMA was approved and hopefully sometime this week I will be getting the rampage back. when I get it back I will post some more on how its running and if it goes zzzzz again on me.

Hey all, I just got the new Rampage Extreme yesterday, I hook it up and when I put it to XMP profile in the Bios and restarted....it died or whatever it just won't post just like the last one..... I have never had such a problem with motherboards till I got this one. and I thought the 790i was bad (when it first came out) but this board just refuses to work at all.

I tried starting it with just cpu and one stick of ram on the motherboard tray, no go with that.

I tried it again with the cpu and one stick of ram on a plastic surface to elminate any metal touching the board that may short it out. still that doesn't work.

I think I'm just going to buy another 790i since this board just refuses to work unless its on stock settings. but once I set it to go higher it fudges and refuses to post.
