ASUS details their RX Vega Strix series GPUs

It's interesting, though, that they specifically mention overclocking potential. They never did that with Fury, not to my memory. Vega could be at least better at overclocking, if it fails in other areas.

I just heard rumours they are going to do an RX Vega Aries card to take the crown of fastest single card again.

Unfortunately it uses Tweak 2. Such a crappy software...

I use MSI Afterburner for years. It is a fenomenal peace of software, and it works on all cards flawlessly. I have heard that EVGA Precission rivals it, but personaly have never tried it. As long as you are not seriously restricted to use manufacturers software it really makes no difference what they bundle cards with.

Nice, The Vega64 version of this is definitely on my "To Buy" list :)

Uh what? Why on Earth would you get the ROG? They are terrible or at least have been since the 290 series of cards for AMD.
You definitely want the XFX or Sapphire card. Or even the MSI lightning if they decide on that. I sure hope so. The last AMD card to get the lightning was the 290x and it was a F** amazing card and probably one of the best coolers of all time imo.

If the ROG card doesn't take any shortcuts this time around, then I'll change my current opinion for specifically Vega. But I do doubt it.

You make a valid point but it's on the "To Buy" list only if it gets a decent review and temps are decent, If not then I'll go with Sapphires top 64 card as they always make great cards :)

After buying the Asus HD7970 Matrix Platinum which I only paid £253 for brand new I will never buy a ROG AMD card again it was a huge disappointment for a card that had loads of features. The 290X Lightning was an amazing card and MSI worked with AMD engineers to get it right IIRC. The only other R9290X which I thought was good was the Sapphire Vapor X or Tri x. Although they dont make the Vapor X anymore I am wondering if Sapphire will come up with a different cooling solution if Vega runs hot other than the Nitro Cooler. Sapphire make excellent cards for such a small company they are not as big as Asus or MSI etc. I have had 4 Sapphire cards the 4650, 2 7770's "one I still have and it still works as it's in Mrs Tolemacs rig" and then the 290X Vapor X "Old Vapey" I never had a problem with any of them throughout their lifetime :).

I'll be honest, I don't like the look of that card :/

The reference looks nicer..Am I the only one thinking this?

Wish companies would be more innovative than just sticking the things with fans all over it.

Matrix Plats were not good cards. They had unreasonably high failure rates. The 290x one was even worse. You could get those for about £200 toward the end, but even those failed like crazy.

IMO Asus did not start making good high end cards until recently. Their Strix cards have gotten better and better. That may be why MSI have started to fade off from the high end. Gigabyte seem to be getting their act together too but man, their cheap cards are utter crap.

Emmm... I had the ASUS Strix Fury and it's very solid. Terrible overclocking, but that's Fury for you. My card doesn't go past 70°C at the same perceptible volume levels as my previous GTX 970, a much more efficient graphics card. The ASUS Strix ROG cards I've seen for the 1070, 1080, and 1080Ti are all on par with their competitor's equivalents. I've seen no more ASUS cards suffering from coil whine, poor overclocking, high temperatures, BIOS issues, or anything else. I really have no idea where you getting the idea from that the Strix cards are terrible. They're overpriced, but that's it. Prior to Maxwell and Fiji, maybe ASUS ROG cards were not ideal, but I see no reason to avoid them now.

thought asus cards were all machine soldered now, i havnt heard any bad things about the 10 series or 4/500 other than the price.

The 290X Matrix Platinum was horrendous, It was a flamethrower and made the window of my case hot to the touch.

The 980 Matrix Platinum I had decided 1 day that all the fans would stop spinning.

The first 980 Ti Matrix Platinum I had blew up 5 minutes after instaling it, Something by one of the power connectors made a bright white flash, Puff of magic smoke and a smell of death.

From my own experience Asus have had terrible quality control but it got REALLY good with the GTX 10 series.

They both are not that great. I've used both. ROG is much worse than Strix ironically. And the Strix looks good but it ends there.
