ASUS Announces 180Hz ROG Swift PG248Q G-Sync Monitor

I'm a big fan of 24" inch 1080P displays as they look sharp at that size and they are just big enough without having to turn your head.

Yeah 24" 1080 is a sweet spot. 27" and higher really need 1440. One of these would be awesome as a replacement for my middle Samsung. That way there's GSync/high refresh for games that support it on just one monitor or just keep it down to 60hz for surround gaming.

Amen to this, love my 24" 1080 it's just perfect without all that head movement.

If i didn't have a VG248QE i'd be tempted by this, even though i suppose this will carry quite the premium, not sure if the extra 36hz and gsync are worth it. 120hz strobelight is good enough for me for now and the foreseeable future, it's not like gsync makes much of a difference when the framerate is at 250+ fps anyways.

I had an excellent HP 25" 1080 for a long time and I actually think that is the sweet spot for pixel density vs screen real estate. 1080 on my beloved BenQ 27" is a little low really. Granted I can't see any pixelation or problems with it unless I'm really looking but I think 1440 is the ideal resolution for 27 and larger.

As for this Asus, 180 Hz? That might be overdoing it a little. While I absolutely love 120+ Hz gaming and could never go back to 60 Hz, I don't see the benefit to 180 Hz and can't believe anybody could tell the difference between 144 FPS and 180 FPS. As long as there is no price premium for it over a 144 Hz I guess it doesn't matter but I can't see paying any more for the extra frames.

This monitor will be $2499.00 aud

I don't really understand why people rave over the ASUS Swift when the ACER Predator is clearly a better monitor IMO.

what? seriously?? The 34" is only (Lols) $1999. That's crazy money.

I'm tossing up between the Predator and Swift 34" but the Predator is a few hundred cheaper for the same panel.

I think it will be around that price cause of the 180Hz panel.

There is one difference i know most people wouldn't care about the Acer has better built in monitor speakers than the ASUS.

There's talk about 144 v 165 (v now 180Hz) and whether you can actually see the difference. I think it's more a feeling than a noticeable/discernible difference but people can tell and if the blind tests on youtube are to be believed they get them right a fair chunk of the time.
Still I game on 60hz so anything would be a step up. I'm not paying over $2k for a 24" panel tho!

I just read the title i thought it said 34 but it's 24 faceplam

well that changes thing a bit but either way i still don't think it will be cheap, TBH i wouldn't be shocked it they came out with a 34 inch model.

Ah well yeah hopefully puts it under the 27" money so around a grand? Who knows though when GPU's are 1200 bucks and they've not even released the really good ones yet!

Well since CS:GO has taken the world by storm, I see only games like this one capable of achieving 180fps.

Take you average AAA game, you won't really achieve a high framerate like that anyway so its difficult to check if its noticeable. But I have checked 165 vs 144 in some basic tests and I saw no difference. To a trained eye, I think someone could. Some cant see a difference between 120 and 60 but its clear as day for me. We are slowly moving towards the good ol days of CRT framerates of 240hz or more, but the craze of 4K feels like it has died/faded to me.

I see more and more moving back towards 1080 or 1440 with higher frequencies. (forum comments and such). Maybe its because the world feels like its moving towards VR making 4k screens an unnecessary commodity.
