hello there...

Just one short question. Is the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe able to use SATA II Hard drives ? I would say yes, but i cant find any hints in the manual or elsewhere.

Thanks

Pretty sure it is mate: but on Asus' site it doesn't say :(

not to sure if it is or not - but i have a first generation one, i updated the bios before i got my SATA II drive and the bios did recognise it as a SATA II device - weather or not it works at the speed that SATA II is meant to work at is another story.

But yes - SATA II drives do work on that mobo

DL a program called HD Tach and do a quick test, that will tell you straight away whether or not it's working at SATA II speeds.

Looks like its not running at full SATA II speed - not even close, but it is running slightly faster than standard SATA.

Yeah it's definately not running at SATA II speed. My SATA I Raptors in RAID 0 pump out 211mbps... Doesn't look like the mobo is taking full advantage of SATA II :(

yeh deffinetly not taking full advantage there. but then raptors arnt SATA II are they ?

so that would explain it.

I am running out of storage :P - need to RMA my b0rked Seagoat 200gb SATA drive asap.

No, Raptors are SATA I... Reason I posted that up was to show you that my SATA I drives were sustaining a higher transfer rate than your SATA II drives which is whack. I'd drop an email to Asus asking them whats up and if there's a bios update or something that will allow them to run at full capacity.

Well keep in mind frag's are 10k rpm you still see a little improvement. SATAII does not make it 10000x better fyi ;)

SATA II is all about high burst... Comparitively between my setup and kemps setup, the Raptors are twice as fast in the random access department and have a higher average read speed.

10k is teh pwnage... SATAII Raptors, if they come about, will be the perfect HD's.

Solidstate hdd's that work would be the perfect HD's
