Asus 4K To Swift, Talk Me Out Of It !!!

I'm really considering switching from my Asus PB287Q 4K to the Swift, I got some cash from relatives as they never know what to gift me and I could sell the 4K panel to make up the rest.

So, I like the G-Sync aspect and the stupid high refresh rate but a little held back by the huge downsize in resolution.

I need the community's help, Give me the pros and the cons please :)

TBH I think 4k is highly overrated there just isn't much content so why bother and tiny desktop icons just doesn't do it for me, now as to the Swift I'm really pleased with it so far lovely colours, great resolution, nice adjust-ability, 144Hz, 1ms response, Gsync what's not to like....maybe price but you do get what you pay for, and if you game you do see it lush

Swift is nice, i enjoyed mine for a while but for some reason i didn't like it as much as i thought. My previous monitor was a 29" ultra wide, and although the swift was more superior in terms of refresh rate, it has g-sync and higher resolution, there was that lack of immersion in games that i got from the ultra-wide screen.

Now many people right now will be like, WTF!!! You downgrading from a swift?!!!!

To be fair, i play a lot of simulation games and racing games which look epic on ultra-wide monitor and it has a AH-IPS panel. These are the two reasons that made me switch back.

Swift is a beauty though and i can see why its so popular but its just not for me, my next upgrade will be something like a LG 34UM95-P

My pros and cons for the swift:

Pros:

* Nice design and Solid construction
* Physical buttons (i hate touch buttons on screens)
* Nice Resolution 2560x 1440
* 144hz Refresh rate
* 1ms response time
* Nice cable management option at the back

Cons:

* Not that great viewing angles compared to a IPS panel
* Lack of modes as featured on other Asus monitors like standard, game, scenery, night view etc
* Colours of the screen looked very dull and not as vibrant as i hoped but its is the best i've seen on a non-IPS panel

Please note: these pro's and cons are based on my experience with the monitor and may be different to that of others

Sorry for the long post but thought I'd share my view and experience with the Asus ROG Swift :)

^ I think the lack of inputs is a negative for the swift.

I've gamed on both for more than just a few minutes and I would take the Swift (hence I did). If your coming from the 4k Asus then bringing the typical TN vs. IPS argument into it isn't really relevant because there is no doubting that the Swift is a better TN panel.

Lets face it if there was an IPS 1440p/4k even Free-Sync rather than G-Sync option on the table right now it would be catastrophically more expensive than either of these. For that reason I still don't understand the whole Swift and G-Sync is overpriced business, it's fallen to ~£600 along with everything else coming down.

Put it this way, owning the swift has cured my monitor envy. Every review I watched left me wanting, the Asus 4k, 34UM97, U2715... now something serious needs to happen before I would consider parting with it. Along the lines of 4k 144hz IPS G-Sync and a serious line of new graphics cards to push that many pixels.

Didn't you say you were underwelmed by it when you tried it?

Here is what I'd do if I were you. Build a server and/or folding pc. Then wait for the ultimate 144hz IPS panel monitors to arrive.

The swift is overpriced in my eyes because its £600 for a tn panel 144hz monitor with some tech that you can't guarantee will stick around. Not to mention it locks you down to (realisticly) only getting Nvidia cards for as long as you have it. That isn't a dealbreaker for most people but hey, I like to keep my options open ;).
