From what I hear, it's still a terrible performance hog and had a lot of bugs. Doesn't sound like it's ready for a release even after nearly what 2 years of early access?

Yup, it's great in some areas but it's so badly optimised for something that has been in development for so long now.
I play this regularly in my xbox one and love it however yes it does have performance issues. It hitches and freezes alot when there is any sort of action. Hopefully they get it all sorted. Definitely ready for the play anywhere functionality so i can crank up the graphics a notch.

I would guess they would fix it in a patch the day this goes live, but seeing as they have promised performance fixes multiple times in the past I wouldn't have hope

Given that the game is now 2 years old, they promised multiple times that there would be fixes and performance optimisations including DX12.. it's a little too late. Also most of us paid £15 - £20 for this when it was originally in beta.. we were given nothing but garbage patches throughout then they drop a £15 DLC while it's still in beta.. now it's finally after 2 years becoming Alpha they bump the price to £49.99. And it still performs like dog crap.. the vast majority of the communities have dropped it and moved on.

Yeah I don't blame you. Had so much potential but I feel like they just didn't care after they made there money
