Applying MX-3 to chips

Hey,

I normally use AS5, and I use their "ArctiClean" products to prep the surface on the chip and block. But with MX-3, I can't really find any instructions anywhere on the best way to apply the paste. Furthermore, a lot of people have been saying it doesn't spread easily.

I'm not really sure what to do when it comes to applying MX-3: can someone help me out? Any experience with it: tips? How do you get rid of the current thermal paste on the block/chip?

Thanks a lot for your input.

To get rid of the old TIM, I just use Isopropanol spray or Surgical / White Spirit. Comes straight off.

I haven't used MX-3 but I do use MX-2 and I just spread it around with whatever is handy, even the edge of the tube if needs be. If going for the spread over surface of chip method, the anything flat will do.

Or you could go for the blob method and stick half to a whole pea size blob in the middle of the chip and the preasure of mounting it will spread the TIM for you.

Usually I just put a dab of TIM on the CPU and then mount the cooler. Let the cooler do the spreading. Last time I spread it I failed and the temps weren't optimal at all :p
