I'd suspect this might be something you would have to opt-in and pay for. That's how it works with mobile me anyway. I really can't see the device taking pictures and phoning home any time. That would use data for one and people would be pissed if Apple is sending pictures and voice eating away at data plans. Also, this type of monitoring already exists for laptops. Schools and business employ this technology on company owned devices. In the event it's lost or stolen an admin can active the software.

If you read through a lot of tech companies patents you would probably don a tin foil hat. Most of these patents never see the light of day.

I'm with you though, hopefully Apple just holds on to the patents and does nothing more with them. I'd be jumping ship to Android if they were able to get away with this.
 
Wasn't Jailbreaking just made legal? Like, you even keep your warranty?

I'm sure my transatlantic buddy was going on about it a couple of weeks back.

I have heard some pretty shi**y things about Apple tbh. Namely the suicide thing where people were doing themselves in after being threatened with the ridiculous NDA. Now whether or not any of it is real? I don't know, but I do know that the success they have had has gone to their heads a bit.

I've owned a couple of macs. Sadly when they went to Intel CPUs it was all a bit silly. I mean, even compared to a boutique PC (Falcon NW, Voodoo, Alienware etc) they are still more expensive and usually a lot slower.

Was a bit of a revelation to find out that Foxconn make all their motherboards too.
 
Apple doesn't make anything. They only design products.

AFAIK, the suicides were due to poor working conditions and insanely long hours. Nothing to do with an NDA or Apple really. It was Foxconn that were doing this. I'm sure part of it was pressure from Apple to get cheaper pricing, but you can't place sole blame on them. Foxconn manufactures devices/parts for many different companies.
 
Foxconn also makes PS3's for Sony aswell. But one of the employee's did commit suicide after loosing a early protoype of the iPhone 4, Foxconn illegely ram raided his apartment and he jumped out of the window (iirc).
