Apple iPad Has Home Grown CPU

that is a waste of money

i would rather buy a iphone then that...

but its good for boring people or who got money and want to just surf the net...

Not even fluttered an eye lid at the product tbh. When I see it on BBC news I thought it was April 1st, it just reminded me of the Click Wheel. Pretty much fail and a joke, looks HUGE!

The thing is, it "can" multitask, multitasking has nothing to do with the cpu. The question is whether Apple are allowing more that one app to run at once. I'm not sure that the iPhone does, I seem to think that each apps state is frozen once u take focus off it, but still there are many things running in the background.

Remember, decades ago, Linux on a 286 could multitask, as could AmigaOS on a 25mhz motorola.

It's the kernel more than anything else. Afaik the iPad will have an OSX variant as usual.

Personally, all I see here is another gimmick for the Apple fanboys can go on about and some other form of culture for the mega-corporations to encapsulate, and market only with disgusting restrictions for them to make more money from. ("intellectual property" on ebooks)

They tried to move people over to ebooks in 2002 but that didn't happen. But now they've got a new medium to sell it on and especially it coming from Apple it must be good and warrent a revival of ebooks!

ipad su#$%s at everything kindle or any other ereader is better then ipad. (censured because of forum admins.)

Totally agree, to all of the above posts.

One thing that was rather funny was watching the feed of Jobs' speech and watching the Apple shares feed to see how much it went up or down depending on what he said.

But did anybody see the presentation he did? I remember:

"the last time there was this much hype about a tablet, 10 commandments were written on it"

Way too arrogant for my liking.

I have an iPhone and am in need of a browsing/e-mail/messenger laptop for the lounge (our Dell's slowly giving up).

I was looking forward to the announcement, but frankly I think the iPad is a waste of space, mainly due to:

* No flash support - BIG problem for me

* The on-screen keyboard - the missus just doesn't like them. OK I can get a dock, but that just demotes it from an on-lap surfer to...well I don't know what to....

* Price - it looks like it will be about £400....and you can get a nice laptop for that

I DO like:

* Always on, like the iPhone. Puts 'sleep' modes on Windows to shame.

* App Store is excellent.

* Touch browsing interface is excellent.

* In fact, the whole interface is superb and easy to use.

* Mobile gaming potential - the iPhone games are great

* iTunes - some people like it and frankly, I do (though I buy MOST of my music on Amazon MP3 store that integrates with iTunes).

Lack of Flash support = FAIL

theres no doubt in mind that tegra 2 + asus/msi = ipads death in some cases, obviously you wont win over the stupid fanboys who only care about the label etc etc, but the tegra has the dual core cortex cpu and some nvidia juicyness to go with.
