AOC Launches £99 FreeSync monitor

Cracking price for FreeSync that!
The only thing that worries me about Freesync is that I understand that AMD let monitor vendors choose rates and stuff is that right?

Yes it is the monitor manufacturer that gives a monitor a FreeSync range, which is the range for framerates within which freesync will work.

This range is mostly down to the monitor scaler, which is a technology that is improving a lot over time (remember that FreeSync is only a year or so old).

AMD do not control this range, but over time these ranges will improve with future monitors. some are as low as 48-75 and others are as wide as 35-90 or 40-144Hz.

bummer it doesn't support DVI, that is my one requirement for monitors right now, as an owner of a 650 ti

I dont think nivida support freesync mate and thay probaly never will.

This is great ive been waiting for a sub £100 freesync its just about my price point...although i will need a video card upgrade too T_T

Very interested. Wonder what the image quality and response time are? Do you know how many MS the response time is?

Hmmmmm £129 for a 24" freesync monitor. Think I might be selling my Acer pretty soon.
Any links to retailers? Be interesting to see what cables it comes with i.e Display port lol

Honestly I am just looking for an inexpensive quality monitor, my current HP1940 is old

Just to clarify but you need a AMD video card for a free sync monitor and a Nvidia card for a G sync monitor is that right? If that is the case I like my monitors to last a good amount of time and I upgrade my graphics cards more often than my display. So I don't like the idea of tying into one brand like this.

That is correct. If you want the benefits of freesync or g-sync, then you will have to make the compromise. Freesync is arguably a better alternative though due to it being a standard and Intel is jumping onboard too.

Awesome price point, just has a small range for it to operate, but at the price it is you can't complain. People in this market probably don't have an high end GPU anyways

ahem, think again. I had my trifire 290x setup connected to a 1080p 60hz monitor for a few months :D

Just taking a stab ;) though all in all, the lower end is actually beginning to look quite good. Even the 950 and 960 can achieve some nice frame rates (though locked to G-sync)

They are slightly weak cards imo(relative to price segments). At the same price point a 380 is faster than a 960. Pair a 380 with this AOC Freesync monitor and you have an awesome cheap gaming rig.

The main point I was trying to get across is that the lower end of the market doesnt mean super weak cards anymore.

Given a choice between Freesync and G-Sync and considering the price disparity, I'm gonna go with FreeSync every time.

If NVIDIA wants to have us adapt to G-Sync, they shouldn't jack us extra money for our monitors.
