Anyone tried pelt cooling on 7800's??

Hi Guys,

I am looking to get higher unthrottled clocks from my 7800's and though about pelt cooling.

I already got me a meanwell 320w supply just wandered what pelts to use - and knowing the cold bug - what other advice you would give to a guy trying it for the first time.

Cheers

Just tried it with the same psu and 175W 24V Pelts (@26V) (using the temp fixed bios). My idle temps went from around 40C (hot weather yesterday) to around 20C but my load went from around 50C to around 90C because the water kept getting hotter as the single radiator couldn't keep up with the pelts' heat output. I.E. Do try it if you're using the modded bios and have (a) good enough radiator(s), otherwise it won't help you like it didn't help me :(.

Thanks Gollum,

Got me a 120.2 rad assy and it's pretty good - mave suggested fitted 2 extra fans in push pul arrangement to maximise flow.

Although I only got a crappy ehiem 1080 pump and I think thats effecting me cooling capacity.

I was not sure if I wanted 172 or 110w pelts for these - I can go higher (172w) and reduce the volts to decrease cooling cpacity?

Indeed you can. I'm sure you've already tried but if you don't have a multimeter then you'll need telling that the meanwell 320w psus can vary from v=4.5 to about v=6.5 and obviously the voltage across your pelt is twice that as they have +v to -v connectors. So you can vary between about 9v and 13v.I should think 13v is safe on most. Mine are rated up to 24v so I imagine that's what most are.

Also I don't know which the 1080 is. I have the 600l/h one that looks like this:

Which one is the 1080?

Any pics of urs?

Come to think of it I haven't seen any pics of your computer at all. What case do you have? Post some pics. Show me where you have put your meanwell. I would quite like to see the computer I'm competing against. :p No competition really though.

Again all I can say is custom fatty waterchiller :) the one I just built does -15 idle ( mainly cos my eheim 1250 wont pump much lower than that ) I will try show some pics of it later

@ Gollum - Thanks for the information mate - I think I'll give it a miss - I got a problem with uneven temps on the cards right now and thats just one of about 4 things gone wrong today!!
