Any Recommend GTX690?

Hey guys

Deadloss here.....

I'm currently looking at getting a new graphics card, or even a couple for SLi.

I'm currently pushed towards the GTX650, as here on the :oc3d: community, and else where people are raving about how good these cards are.

However I am looking a future proofing my new build, so either wait for a new card (possibly the GTX7 series this year) or getting a GTX690.

With that said, I do currently have a GTX590 and debating if i bought a GTX650 for a dedicated physx Card, and using the GTX590 for the main graphics, if I would need anything else, or would buying a new 6 series card, offer me more.
Of course I've looked on my forums and nVidia's site, and seen all the charts, where the GTX690 out performs the 590, but would i truly get a massive performance difference?

Many thanks Community,

Deadloss out.......

You will gain an overall improvement with the 690, may not be the best value wise, as 670 SLi is cheaper and can out perform the 690...

That being said, the 690 is an amazing card with some fantastic engineering by Nvidia.

To get the most from a 690, a 2560x1600 monitor or higher really is what you should be pairing it up with...

At 1920x1080, i can gather there would be some low GPU core usage in certain games, but FPS will always remain high, so long as there is no driver conflicts or bad game coding.

I would get 650's out of your mind totally, SLi or single, they are nowhere near a 590 in performance.

OK, i've got your meaning. :)

Sounds like the GTX590 is holding in there, I've been out of the game for a while in keeping up-to-date on newer cards etc... been a couple of years.

Actually the last time i was up-to-date on everything Hardware was when they released the GTX590 and then I got caught up in other matters.

I'm in the middle of putting together a new system for my 2013 build, and trying to piece it all together.

So then if I got the GTX690 would leaving the 590 in my computer as a dedicated physx card add anything, or just be worth leaving it alone?

Cheers mate.

Leave the 590 out, it really is a none issue regarding PhysX with todays GPU's, especially such high end cards like the 670 or 680.....690 is a whole different beast :D

Why not sell it for a good price? or just keep it as a back up, i also noticed you still have a boxed 480, not a bad collection :)

Yer, I've seen to have gotten a good collection of the higher end cards. ;)

Might be time to sell them i guess, but i hate parting with hardware that looks so cool!

Hehe, the 480 is a beautiful looking card albeit it's drawbacks :)

I still have my stock HSF assembly from my 480's, love that cooler, it puts large CPU coolers to shame :D

It really is up to you.

For the love of all things holy, stay away from quad SLI. You'll encounter far too many problems to make it even vaguely worthwhile.

I've got a 1500w Thermaltake power supply.

Be interesting to know by how much would a GTX590 SLi perform against a single GTX690, as isn't the newer cards designed to perform fast and smoother than the previous 5 series?

Driver issues, micro stuttering, lack of performance increase (often performance decrease), lack of compatibility and huge waste of money.
Quad-SLI should only be for benchmarks, until current games/drivers can successfully cope with 4 GPUs.

Cheers for the heads up Josh, great info not just for me, but i think for many.

There's deffinately a belief out there that 2 x 690's would be awesome for gaming, and blast the competition away.

Just something I'm trying to find out;

I'm running most of my game across three monitors, and would love to some how boost there performance. I currently already have a GTX590 and for some games really have to lower game specs to acheive a comfortable / playable gaming experience.

Anything out there, that would help improve this performance, allowing me to increase game settings to higher levels, as I must admit the only thing i could think of was either Quad SLi (2 X 590's) or Sli a couple of new 6 series cards.

Any idea dude?

Get two 4GB 670's and throw them in SLI or wait for the 7xx series.

I'd wait and see how Nvidia's new card Titan performs.. Release could be as early as the end february..
