any good air coolers out there :D

ok so i am looking to see if i can get a air cooler for less than £60 that can

1.keep a i7@4.2-4GHz cool

2.not get in the way of any of the RAM slots on X58A-UD7

3.must not be more than £60 including any fans i need to buy

4. help with what fans to by will be needed

Pretty limited if you need all the slots, otherwise that noctua would be the best bet. The prolimatech megahalems seems pretty good, although I think that would be about £65+ with fans.

Is the Frio not doing the job?

In terms of fans:

In terms of quietness Noctua are probably king, but obviously they are very expensive. I've used a fair number of different fans and this is my very subjective take on them all.

Sharkoon Silent Eagles shift a lot of air at 2000 RPM but are pretty loud, 1000 RPM they are reasonably quiet. They are not the ultimate fan ever, whatever Bit tech says.

Xilence, had a few of these, the 1300RPM ones are cheap, reasonably quiet, but by no means silent. I've got a red bladed PWM Xilence as one a CPU fan, but it doesn't shift enough air really.

Gelid fans seem to be very quiet, and shift reasonable amounts of air at low RPM, but on the other hand its still pretty middle of the road.

Yate Loons are great value, I've had a fair few, quiet at 1200RPM, they can get pretty loud by 2200, but they still aren't as loud as the Silent Eagles. That said they are pretty cheap, at £5 a pop.

Scythe Gentle Typhoon, these are currently on my big radiator, they shift a lot of air at 1450RPM, but they are still noticeable noise wise (maybe as loud as a 280GTX idling, you know they are there, but they aren't that distracting). I dare say the 1150s are quieter.

Suyon 38mm, this shifts a lot of air, but unfortunately isn't quiet, great for temperatures, but there are better fans out there

Deltas, not owned a delta, but the 38mm ones could go up to 4000RPM. I have heard one, for an accurate idea of how loud this is, get a hair dryer, switch it onto cool, then point it down your ear.

well if i wait for a couple of weeks then i will be able to free up the first slot on the motherboard

my ram is tall so it still wont help much anyway

the frio is only a temp cooler i am borrowing from tom and dont want to keep hold of it for to long as it is not mine

so to sum up the fans noctua are the best i can get but expensive :/

megahalms is the other top dog for i7 cooling, but yes it may be more expensive as you gotta get fans

well i might have more when i sell my extra set of ram once i am done playing around with 12GB ram

Titan Fenrir.

is a possibility but what stopped me getting it in the first place was the clearance issue :/ and i think my new ram is taller :/

to keep a overclocked i7 cool? your high

only on life

lol

the titan will not cool your i7 overclocked the only other coolwe that will is the megahalms or if you have room the dh14

Ive got a megahalems you can try strawb.

if i could that would be awesome save me paying loads on a cooler that doesnt fit :/

i knew as i was typing it would come back to a DH14 very quickly :/

well thats cos it cools overclocked i7's very well

but if you dont have the space then the megahalms will be fine

Cooler Master Hyper 212+.

My friend runs his on a stock Xeon X3440 with 2xAntec Tri-Cools (59 cfm), the temperatures hover around 28C idle and 42C gaming.

Sounds pretty good to me, and that's with some crappy fans on the cooler and case.

Does any one know what the new low profile Noctua with the 140 is like?

I've done some measuring and I think I am going to be heart broken when the NH14 thinger comes. I just don't think it's going to fit in the case. However that low pro one does look quite delicious.. We needs a review !
