Anti-Violent Game Legislation

Interesting times ahead for some of our younger generation members. A New York State Representative has drafted a Bill that would require anyone appearing to be under 30 years old to show identification to buy a violent or sexually-explicit game. The odd thing is that the Bill will not affect online purchases. Care to comment?

It's rather silly. Video games have become the whipping boy of stupid people. Why did you kill all those people? Oh I saw it in a video game! ZOMG it must be the video games fault not the idiot that killed all those people. I understand that's an example, and not exactly how it is, but i'm not too far off.

i can see some point init that the younger generations are influenced by games, whether it be for the better or worse, but theres so many different ways of geting your hands on illegal copys i cant see it being a big impact imo

I think it's a good idea, but aren't those age restrictions/warnings on games and movies meant to be enforced by the people in the shop anyway  like selling alcohol or cigs?

Shop workers should be doing that already tbh.

Whether people use games as an excuse (to crimes) or not is another matter tho. Can't they also say "I saw a program on TV" in the same sense as saying "I saw it in a game" ??

Seems as lame as those people who tried taking bands to court because when you played their albums backwards there were subconcious messages about devil worship etc  (anyway surely it's someone's religious right to worship whatever entity they want to?)

We have age restrictions on games already so maybe it's time to crack down on the parents who don't monitor those children rather than the games industry?

Additionally the people who do murder people and blame games are blatently mentally unstable anyway

Wal Mart enforces it for Xbox and PS2/PS3 games but not for PC. I bought BF2 when it came out and they didnt tag me. Of course i had a card but still. You should be carded no matter what, even if you do look over 30. Thats the rules for mature games.

I think anyone who looks under 30 is a rediculous suggestion. I ID people who i think are under 21 for alcohol. And that more likely to cause a murder than any game.

I agree that if the kids buying the games arn't mature enough to differ between reality and a game then they shouldn't be allowed to by Happy Hills animal care farm 4.5, let alone a title like GTA:SA. Its down to the pearants and retailers to enforce the age restrictions.

Dumb Idea!

Firstly I buy all my games online.. Or get my MUM to go get them!

My mum didn't used to let me go and get 15+ games but now I have sown I am responable. And now my mum allows anything.. :)

I never have problems with the shops.. Just send your mum.

But I really don't agree with 10 years old getting there hands on 15+.

But then that is down to the Dumb parent. What ever they do kids will still get the games... As long as mum and dad allow.. Get me? :D

Another bites the dust.. Should it pass, it will get struck down as always. :p So in the end, politicians needs a slap in the face.

Agreed. It's just like, "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

Anyway, this really bites for me.

tbh this probably won't do much to deter youth from buying violent or sexually explicit games. It is just like anything else, if they want it, they will find some way to get it. I'm glad this isn't being enforced in Canada

lucky you, canada has the least regulations for just about anything besides guns.
