AMD's Zen CPUs are rumoured to be coming in February 2017

The lower TDP ratings for the CPU probably comes from the fact this chipset is more power efficient which would help it's TDP rating. Although it's still impressive how they reduce 30watts from basically the same thing beforehand

Zen is certainly looking to be a viable prospect I just hope they deliver as I don't really want to go back to intel again

New sockets every two gens... New more expensive CPUs... Hardly any increase in performance, barely better performance efficiency, Bout sums it up. But for mobile chips it's even worse. Even higher prices and less performance. Think WYP mentioned a while ago a i7 mobile quad core, was as fast as an i3 desktop? Can't remember if it was him or that was the exact quote, but point is much less performance. Even AMD Apus aren't that far behind for mobile

All that is mostly down to lack of competition from AMD.

A competitive AMD could make Intel care once more about pushing performance, will take a couple of years though, as you don't bring a new high performance CPU to market overnight.
