AMD's Vega GPUs will ship in Q2 2017

AMD has announced that their first Vega-based GPUs will ship in Q2 2017, hinting at a launch window between May and June. This will no doubt disappoint those that hoped for an earlier launch for Vega

Yup, exactly my thoughts...

This is to late and is going to hurt AMD, unless it is blisteringly quick.

My thoughts exactly, the only way it will pay off is that if they pull something incredible out their hat, but I won't be getting my hopes up though

Oh well on the bright side it gives me time to save for it and i'm sure "Old Vapey" will last until then

I don't think it's to late. They did say it won't be late Q2. So it should arrive towards middle of April/May I'm guessing. You can't have them releasing everything to close together, it'll hurt your product sales.

The top end Vega will either have to compete directly with the Pascal refresh coming around summer time or surpass it to make the wait worth it.

AMD can't afford to have another Fury X.

Pascal refresh won't be that impressive tbh. It's exactly what AMD needed to not be left behind. After this point, they should be equal finally in release dates of new GPUs. Or at least very close.

The biggest problem with them taking this long is it gives Nvidia time to get something ready so that once they launch Vega they just go well here you are and smash them out of the park again, TBH I don't think it hurts sales to release both the CPU and GPU together as people like matching hardware and this could end up biting them in the ass

They have had the Ti ready for a long time. They are just waiting for Vega to launch. The pascal refresh isn't anything new, so it doesn't hurt to keep it waiting. They have till there next gen GPUs. They have nothing but time.
AMD might as well take advantage to maximize sales for both parts and create very high volumes for launch day.

Im not talking about the refresh I have a sneaky suspicion they have something else up their sleeve so that if Vega is really good they can trump it with something else

Which would be the 1080ti? That's what I said? Lol
It's more likely it'll be the top performer so they are just waiting till Vega so can "destroy" Vega at launch. My suspicion at least

No not the 1080ti I think they have something else ready just in case and if the card from AMD aint that great then yes it will in all likely hood be the ti
TBH I hope this new card scares the SH** out of Nvidia as they need a wakeup call IMHO

Oh ok. Hmm well then IDK really what it would be?
I agree. Hope Vega scares them good.

So what does that mean for the 490, i saw rumors that the 490 was going tobe a dual gpu card varient of the 480, now as thats a rumor its probably fubar, but if vega isnt going tobe a 490 then whats going on ?

As for the thought that this is giving nvidia to much time, the time it takes for them to create gpus then i dont think it really matters, yes nvidia maybe able to retaliate with something ground breaking, but they are relying on the Ti having the power to blow anything amd release out of the water. Added into this most people who are going ryzen i think are also planning to dual it with vega, so in essence its only a time factor if they leave vega to long after ryzen is fully out and people have already built there machines.

It might be a 5xx series?

Well thats my thoughts, but why would they put out a dual gpu of the last varient that aint going tobe cheap and make it contend against its new generation cards which on paper should blow the last generation out of the water.

I can see the problem being that if Ryzen doesn't live up to the hype, and people have been waiting for it to upgrade, they could just go with intel and nvidia because they are fed up with the wait
