AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 2nd Gen 2990X 32-core CPU specs leak

Even 32 cores at 4Ghz is insane performance. Three years ago that wasn't even a thing for server systems that cost $10,000. I'm really curious to see what price AMD will be able to sell these at. $1600?

I wonder if we will still get the "top 5% dies for Threadripper". I don't think it would even matter. I doubt overclocking it will get you far unless you measure power consumption

16 times as many threads as my 4690K yet is less than 10 times faster in Cinebench

Core scaling inefficiency is getting worse :(

Unfortunately large CPUs will always have to be clocked lower than small ones. Just like how large cars are crappy on petrol compared to smaller models.

The logistics, on the nodes we are on, dictate this. Funny how you have managed to compare a 4690k to a 32 core TR, though.

Come back in ten years when the node is even smaller and we have lower power CPUs. However, even then I can all but promise you that smaller cut down models will clock higher.

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison, or why it's an issue. You may have a point, but they're completely different CPUs for completely different purposes. Threadripper 2 isn't sixteen 4690K CPUs on a die and was never supposed to be. It isn't even close to that. Complaining about the efficiency of a 32c/64t CPU that is said to overclock on all cores to 4Ghz with a 280mm AIO on an X299 board that could cost around $1500 is weird to me.
