AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X has been reduced to $299 in the US - A $150 price cut

But it's just Micro Center. Have AMD themselves actually officially reduced prices? If they haven't, maybe they aren't that worried about Alder Lake.

Ooo might bag one of these soon.

That will explain it. I know, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, but watch it any way. Very interesting. Bottom line is? once the price drops on an item and people see it for that price? you're done. That item will then need to be sold at that price.

Not really. Micro Center undercuts the rest of the stores regularly. That has never caused a global US price drop on products.

That's not to say that Ryzen prices won't drop, but so far the price on Amazon and Newegg is less than $10 below to the previous price (before Alder Lake release).

Well put it this way. I am not paying more than that for one now. Mostly because it just isn't worth it.

Price drops are inevitable.

If you could find it for £270 (which I guess is the UK equivalent), would you buy it? Because if not, then saying that you won't be buying for more is meaningless.

Well given it has had a £70 price drop overnight to £340 then yes, I would say that I will get one for £270. Thankfully I've always been patient.

That said I think I may wait for the 5950x to come down some, then buy that. Take the 3950x out of my main rig and put it in my other one, double upgrade for one price.

BTW that is not the UK equivalent. You forget - the UK pays 20% VAT. These taxes are added in before advertising. Prices you see in the USA are before state tax, which varies. So it's not $299.

$299 is about £220 before tax, so I'd say that £270 is a reasonable equivalent estimate. I also based this on the £290 price for the 12600K as advertised on the Currys site.

Anyone know when this price drop will be hitting the UK, I am on the cust of purchasing a new cpu I've already grabbed a b550i motherboard so I am committed to ryzen but a price drop would mean I could commit more budget to my gpu which I am having a nightmare getting

There won't be any significant Ryzen 5000 price drops until Intel releases the H and B series 600 boards. 12th Gen CPUs may be cheaper than Ryzen 5000, but an actual 12th Gen system costs a lot more than a Ryzen 5000 system. Net result is Ryzen 5000 is still cheaper, and there's still a refresh coming which will reclaim some of that performance gap.

When you can build a 12600K system for about the same money as a 5600X system, AMD will drop prices.

I'd agree, if it weren't for the quite glaring issues AL has at the moment. The ones where about 30 games won't work unless you disable the E cores (Denuvo) and the others where you have to use Win 11 because certain games won't even launch, and M$ have made it clear they won't be fixing this in Win 10 until 2022.

So not only do you need to adopt this new tech and become a beta tester but you also need to adopt a new OS, and same. Seen a few issues with XMP on DDR5 too, and etc.

Now I am sure that Intel will sort this out faster than AMD sorted Ryzen, but for all of those who just want a hassle free experience? I will stick to AMD. Been burned too many times in the past. That is why I did not go near Ryzen until 3rd gen. Because it had issues, BIOS issues, memory issues and etc etc.

I'm not a beta tester who pays any more.

Hence for right now I will fish for a 5950x soon, take the 3950x out of my rig at my home home and bring it here to my mother's and whack it in here.
