AMD's Radeon RX 6800 is reportedly 50% faster than an RTX 3090 when crypto mining

So .. it's grab one on release (in that 2 second window of opportunity) or wait until the next crypto crash.

No two ways about it if this is true then we got a real task on our hands.

I'll be ready in january but i guess it'll happen when it happens.

least i'll still be able to play cyberpunk 2077 on my old af 970 sli :D

Whether this is true or not there's going to be a shortage and for a while. Nothing has changed except the used market in 6 months.

AMD is gonna make a killing. I know miners aren't where they want their GPUs going, but it's still more GPUs being sold than they can physically manufacture and distrubute, something AMD haven't had a problem with for a long time.

As much as i want one, i don't feel amd care who buys them they just want to shift a ton of them and this is one sure fire way that they will, so in amd's eyes this surely is a good thing.

Sadly that is what every business wishes for. I don't blame them at all.

"Dear company that barely used to make enough to keep the doors open. Please stop selling out of your products so you can make a profit".

I am sure the AMD masochists will lap it up.

By AMD masochist.. I heard MLID explain it yesterday and it really made me LOL. Basically some of AMD's fanboys only like AMD when they are behind and crap, and give free cores away and ETC. When they actually make good products they slate them :D

Well, AMD have actually said they do much prefer if these go to gamers, as it's more secure for them long term and delivers them mindshare and loyalty, it's been argued that a big factor in AMD's lack of market penetration in the PC gaming space is down to their cards success at cryptomining. For quite a few years (2014-2017?) AMD had probably the best value hardware on the market but couldn't really sell a single card to gamers, because miners were paying £200+ extra to retailers for them, so developers again began optimising for NVidia much more in the PC space and the 1060 became what must possibly be the best selling GPU in history, or a very strong contender. If it wasn't for the consoles, that cryptominer situation could have killed Radeon off.

However, this time around, it doesn't mean anything. For basically any modern profitable crypto, including the mentioned NiceHash, people will already use ASIC's. Sure, these cards might be "profitable", but anyone actively seeking profit, and to maximise that, would go for an ASIC. Hence why we haven't seen a rush for GPUs for years ofc.

ASIC's are far more profitable, but last time around a certain company i.e AIB was selling them directly to the miners in huge warehouses full of cards.

I could see it being an issue if gamers can't get them at all but i think as far as mindshare go's amd have plenty of that atm and so the average person isn't going to blame amd for this it's just something we'll accept.

Regardless nvidia will and would have sold plenty of cards regardless cause they have a huge following so even if they lost some sales they are pretty much certain to sell a ton anyway, too many write amd off driver wise and such, there are issues, but it's not like they are the only ones that have them feels a little too harsh sometimes.

I'll hopefully have a card in january or maybe try to order at christmas time we'll see.

Alien MLID is kinda right on that, it's the same as the prices going up slightly when really they haven't changed much in years, too many want a cheap product in truth so them being behind aid's that but i'd much rather a good product at a fair price than for amd to be behind again and struggling.

VideoCardz has updated their article saying:
We have confirmed with GPU reviewers who already have access to Radeon RX 6800 series that the mining performance is definitely not as claimed by the user. The story is therefore not true.
