It looks like old AM3+ compatible CPU coolers will not fit on AMD's upcoming AM4 CPU socket, making it difficult to use older CPU coolers on the new platform.

Anything using the old AMD clip mounting system could still work (the clips don't move that much), hard to know ATM.

Only ever used Intel with mine so not sure what's in the box, will have to go find it in the recesses of the cellar

BeQuiet have said some of their coolers will be getting mounting kits. I emailed them asking earlier and that's what they've come back with. Also they also said they can't say anything exact until CES 2017.

sucks if true

Dunno man I think it's for the best. Think about it, some dippy decides to use an AM2 stock cooler and burns up his Zen chip.

An 8 core chip needs some serious cooling. I would bet that nearly all of the AM3 coolers out there would be insufficient. It's only really FX 8 owners who have or needed hefty cooling, and those will probably work fine with a new bracket kit from either Corsair, Noctua ETC.

My 1090T got plenty hot lol, one of the main reasons I moved to water because my NHD14 was only able to keep it in the low 80's

Yup. Probably my favourite company of PC parts of ever tbh. They're just so lovely to deal with.

You might pay for their coolers but you literally get a lifetime of support.

I really love the Noctua colours. It's just that no one else makes hardware that matches them. I've contemplated doing a Noctua-themed build, but it's almost impossible without serious modding.
