AMD's AM4 socket has been pictured

My main concern is whether or not you'll still be able to use the AM3/3+ mounting brace for my current cooler. I'd hate to upgrade and have to shell out for a new AIO cooler. Its already going to be pricey enough with ram/cpu/mobo.

I used to hate AMD sockets. Can't tell you how many times I tried to remove the cooler and pulled the chip out by mistake :(

Then some one told me to stress the CPU for a minute or two before you try and remove it. Bingo bongo, softens up the paste and a gentle twist and it's off.

They don't mention this stuff on the manual, sadly...

Had the same problem when I was too afraid to remove the stock amd cooler (with the stock paste) off my cpu...:mellow::mellow:

Always used to give mine a twist then slight leaver to lift the cooler off, lost count how many times I've pulled the CPU out of a locked socket

iirc AMD did say that all current AM3 coolers will fit on the AM4 socket without a problem or new mounting brackets. That being said some companies like Noctua will probably offer an AM4 upgrade kit to make current coolers fit.

Pcie lane comparisons will need to wait for price points. Myself, if it can finally meet or beat my O.C. 4790k, the i7 is demoted to htpc rig duty and AMD finally again moving forward. I've waited since G-D socket 940 for a decent offering. The blue drink is fine and all, but it's like buying a Nvidia card, you know at some point the creator has kicked a puppy. Meanwhile AMD is like my old project car '87 SPG, when it's running it's F'ing brilliant, when it's broke, you'll give your left nut to get it back in the game.

Only 24 PCIe lanes though compared to intels 40 on X99.

You do understand that AMD doesn't have a product which targeted at X99 so your kinda comparing the wrong items you should be comparing AM4 to Socket 1151.

Before anyone bites my head off i'm talking about in terms of Socket size.

So after a quick look it appears the Z170 and Q170 set of LGA 1151 motherboards support up to 20 PCI-E lanes. In that case it would mean that AMD's AM4 motherboards are little better then Intel's Z170/Q170 LGA 1151 motherboards when it comes to PCI-E lane support.
