AMD's AM4 Platform could Launch As Early As March 2016

AMD mopped the floor with Intel fromm 1999 to 2005 in performance. The Athlon 2800+XP was clocked at 2.08 GHz (released in 1999) and had the same level of performance as the Pentium 4 clocked at 2.8 which was released in 2000, then came along the Athlon 64 2800+ which had twice the performance at 2.0 GHz than the Pentium 4 @ 2.8 Ghz . So yes, AMD kicked Intel's ass. And for some more info the Core I7 is a reverse engineered Nehalem FX architecture that Intel obtained by purchasing the Nehalem microprocessor fabrication plant from AMD (where the older FX processors were manufactured and where the I7 was born) but it's funny that after the Nehalem plant created the first I7 Intel shut the plant down shortly after. And as for the ATI HD5870, it was designed to compete with the short lived GTX 380 (which it kicked it's ass), the GTX 480 came March 26, 2010 the HD 5870 came September 22, 2009.

It's certainly a plausible rumor, given the chipset isn't going to be on the latest process as is normally the case. It could very well be ready for release far before Zen comes.

Just got to wait and see. :p

A 390 or 970 are not meant to drive 4K monitors. So does it really matter if they got 4,8 or 16Gigs?

Indeed it does. Many games consume nearly 4GBs of vram these days on 1080p. Plus games will always use more vram if it is available. BF is a good example at this, if you have 2GB of vram but then get the same card that has 4GB of vram, you'll notice your usage increases by a large amount because it's taking advantage of it. Keeping things in memory is much faster than reprocessing it. Add in the fact it's probably about 3-7% faster overall and both overclock very well, the 8GB of vram is just a really nice bonus on top of the cake.

I just hope they don't skimp on the chipset. They can release a zen cpu that rivals the 5960x but if it has something similar of a chipset like they do now, it won't sell well at all. I'd say it needs to support USB 3.1/C/PCI 3.0/ Msata/M.2/NVMe etc.

I agree, AMD's enthusiast chipset needs a serious update.

I mean, compare the combination of the 990FX & SB950 to either Z170 or X99. It ain't pretty. :p

It's so bad going back to even Sandy Bridge chipsets beats out the current 990FX. And that was from when? 2011? That's pretty sad tbh

There's nothing really wrong with 990FX. More PCIE lanes than Z170 any way. It's just the CPUs you put in it :D
