AMD vs Nvidia

ATM yes, but I think it is about to change.......

New unified GPU Core 17 is in beta and it uses openCL. Preliminary results are favoring the 7xxx AMD cards for top performance. Fermi's arent't too bad and Keplers are behind the Fermi's. These WU's in beta are also QRB.

This all could change before public release, but Core 17 is coming and so is GPU QRB

Be great if you or someone from the team can post about this once its live and Ill dig some cards out and make a video :)

There is a beta-Phase of the openGL thing running already.

If you wanna try it out, use the 13.1 driver and do NOT install SDK with it. Like so:

627067d1361243340-hd-7970-faltet-nur-auf-40-oi-op-.png

Once the installation is complete download 2.7 SDK and install it

Without those steps the AMD 7000 series graphic cards would run with only 40% load. After that the load should be close to 100%. Also activate the beta-WU support ...

from what ive read 7970 are seeing about 40k PPD, as soon as i get my PSU back ill be checking this!

I used to fold a few years back, had a little farm running and everything!

Wow, that's really promising. I had to look at it a few times to be sure the numbers were right. Keep us posted if you can on any changes.

i will do, just gonna let it run for a couple of days see if we can get some stable PPD numbers, then ill add my 3770k in the mix

Holy cow batman. What's your power draw at the wall? What's the full spec of your system? What brand GPU's are they?

i dont own a Kill-A-Watt meter so cant check the power draw but im assuming it'll be around 500-550W

3770k @ 4.6
Maximus 5 Formula
MSI R7970 in Xfire @ 1100/1500, clocks go alot higher, but best balance between heat and noise
Corsair SSD
Silverstone Strider 850w

Ouch - must be pretty damn noisey then? Do you think that this will become standard 100K PPD for 7970 or will it change once the beta units disappear? I'm thinking my smp folding days are numbered...

its not to bad where it is at the moment, if i take one of the cards out then it sits at 72 folding all day long

from what ive read Titan produces 120k and 7970 ~110k, these are gonna be the numbers for now, it depends how stanford feels on the credit given
SMP only gets me 33K on the 3770K, not worth running, GPU smash the work out, and is the only way forward

Have to agree. Do you think PPD would be affected if you were to say run a low end cpu, a pentium G2020, with one of these cards. Obviously for gaming it would hold the frames back - but what about for folding?
