AMD touts major architecture improvements

AMD Claims their Barcelona X86 implementation will surpass the Intels Cloverton design @ a magnitude of 40 % per a given clock speed

So far, we the company had claimed that Barcelona will surpass the performance of Clovertown by about 40% at any given clock speed. Now the company says that it believes that Barcelona will have a 50% advantage over Clovertown in floating point applications and 20% in integer performance “over the competition’s highest-performing quad-core processor at the same frequency.”

Yeah the main thing there is 'at any given clock speed' If Barcelona launches at 2.1-2.3 and penryn is at 3.33 at the same time the performance is only gonna be as good at best.

if amd came upto me now, took away, and binned my old pc, and replaced it with a barcelona, amd mainboard, and R600 PC, i would believe them, and use it, and gladly keep it

but as everyone else is saying, all they're doing is talk, talk talk, its not good enough

although, saying that, thats all intel did about the conroe, before the EE's came out

I dont remember where i read but if i remember correctly Barcelona should start around the 2.9ghz area.

We'll just have to wait and see. Technology can only progress so fast, and then they have to make sure its suitable for the retail market etc. Give em a chance too prove themselves IMO.

Well hopefully they can prove it this week with some good results. @PP McGuire from what I can remember of the roadmaps I've seen They're looking at have 2.6Ghz cores out at the start of next year. Could easily be wron gthough.

On a sort of side note dailytech have some real benchmarks from an HD2900xt card. Seems pretty good.

I fervently hope AMD comes out with something good, but like most of you I wanna see the goods on the market and benched, some real world reviews, and head-to-head with the C2D/Q2D. When thats done people can go to town and say,"My Barcelona baby just pwned yer Conrad... Corben... whatever. thpppt!"
