AMD representative reveals Ryzen 7000's launch date

I don't see the advantage in supporting DDR5 exclusively, this early, when your competitor supports both DDR4 and DDR5.

I think it makes sense. AM5 is going to last AMD a long time. Supporting both DDR4 as well as DDR5 might have been a huge task, and considering how DDR5 is the future, it makes sense in my eyes to support it exclusively.

Also, I get the impression AMD are trying to reshape their brand into something more enthusiast. That's not necessarily best for all consumers, but in reality a Zen 4 8c chip is not likely to be much faster than a 5800X3D in gaming. And seeing as DDR5 doesn't improve gaming performance by very much, gamers can still buy the 5800X3D and not feel like they're getting an inferior system. They can plop it in their B450 motherboard and see a huge performance uplift from their 3600X.

DDR5 prices will come down as well. It's been out for a while now. I don't see this move from AMD as a negativism. I think it's the right move personally.

I think it has a lot more to do with the way AMD CPUs work.

It's been proven that there are performance gains by running your infinity fabric clock up to 3600mhz, because it benefits the CPU as well as the RAM. Not so much the RAM, but more the CPU itself.

So I would imagine going from 3600mhz IF to 5000 and beyond would have hindered the CPU performance. That said, given it doesn't use a traditional memory controller it may not even be possible to make it work on DDR4 any way.

I think in AMDs situation memory performance is more important than Intel and therefore in AMDs situation they opted for the latest technology to give them the best chance at competing when they know Intel are coming in hot with great CPUs

Yeah exactly.

I suppose a good way to see how it affects things is to lower the IF clock on a 5000 series to half and see what occurs /nudges Mark.

Would make for an interesting article :)

Not touching the new Zen architectures until AMD are 2 gens deep into DDR5, I will however get a 5800X3D in the coming months to replace my HTPC's 5800X :)
