AMD Reportedly Readies R9 380X GPU

Thats quite a nice looking card. A 6gb version would be an excellent cheap crossfire card for 1440p. I hope the rumours are true.

Would this be a 970 competitor seeing as the 390 is a bit faster that the 970?

Ohhh me like very much, I was looking at a 390 but this could very well be my card, I think 6 GB is enough esp for Modded Skyrim :D

Hopefully there is a backplate

I don't quite like the cooler design, couldn't xfx use the same design they had on their 290(x) cards, it's all black with some chrome bits and that big lit logo make a gorgeous looking card <3

I've sorta gotten used to the new weird triangle look, but this one just makes me go "why?" Hope they change it up before release.

I don't really see the point considering how this card is basically the r9 285x. If history has shown us anything, it's that an overclocked 280 is basically just as fast, if not faster than the 280x. Once I OC'd my 380 to about 1100(about what the 280x is out of the box) I was getting basically the same numbers but on a 4gb card. I don't think that this will compete with the 970 or have 6gb of VRAM because tonga has a 256bit bus >_>. This will essentially be just a higher binned 380 with more shaders. I still think that the 380 non x is better for the money because of its overclocking headroom.

Basically a 7970 but refined and upgraded to a newer GCN version. Should perform very nicely! Hopefully it competes very well with the 970. If it matches it at a lower price, they just might knock down the 970 as the best selling gpu. 6GB GDDR5 is a must though. People just love that VRAM and would give AMD a huge advantage marketing wise. Would also make sense as a 390x gets8GB VRAM, 380x 6GB VRAM, 380 gets 2/4GB VRAM. It scales down to each tier.

No way, the 390 is competing with the 970 and it has 512 more SP than this rumoured 380X. GCN 1.2 doesn't really have stronger cores than 1.1 or even 1.0

I hope GCN 2.0 will introduce a much higher IPC just like nvidia did with maxwell
