AMD R9 Nano specification leaked - has 4096 GPU cores

I've never understood this whole thing with TDP etc?...

And no backplate, whaaat?...

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power, and it simply is how much heat a component produces or how much power it consumes.

AMD have lowered the TDP drastically by reducing clock speeds, moving the GPU to a much more efficient lower clocked state.

Typically when you increase clock speeds you get diminishing returns when it comes to power consumption, hence why more efficient models of CPUs and GPUs tend to be running at lower clocks.

From what I can see from leaked information AMD R9 Nano's clock speed fluctuates to maintain a low TDP, with a max clock speed of 1000MHz.

This is a simple guess, but with this being at a similar size to Nvidia's competing GTX 970 for MATX powerhouse I imagine that AMD wins by a margin of 20-30% or so, which is awesome for AMD.

Cool, thanks for that nice explanation bud :)

So this, the AMD R9 Nano, will be the "direct" competitior to Nvidia's GTX 970?...

it will have performance which is higher than the R9 390X and similar to the GTX 980, at least is recent estimates are accurate.

I compared it to the GTX 970 as it is the most powerful Nvidia GPU of that form factor.

Ohhh nice one, tasty ^_^ ... Does anyone perhaps know if this will be like the Titan of Nvidia or will it come with custom PCBs and custom coolers?. Would be nice to have this with a semi passive cooler :)

I'm just hazarding a guess but I'm guessing AMD will want to keep this stock just like the Fury X but only time will tell :)

So if we compare that to a 980 the prices start from around £375. Prices of 390X start at around £330.

Can't see them pricing it lower than the 390X and can't see it being more than 980's so I'm going £375.

So basically a fury X waterblock would fit this card?

AFAIK the nano has a smaller PCB.

I know it's not a direct comparison but as you can see the Fury X does look longer -

ahh okey no doubt EK will have one out soon :)

I'm sure they already have them being produced. Probably just waiting for AMD to announce them.

If this does indeed have the full Fiji core but consumes 100watts less. I'll be pretty mad tbh. Even if it's 5% slower than my Fury X. I could get two nano's and consume hardly anymore power but have far more performance. Sure I lose the AIO's but I plan on going under water so it wouldn't matter anyway.

Techpowerup got some more info and apparently it is a slight bit faster than a 980 -

AMD's upcoming super-compact graphics card, the Radeon R9 Nano, will be faster than NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 980, and a whopping 30% faster than the GTX 970, according to the company. At its size, it will offer the fastest pixel-crunching solution for compact ITX/SFF gaming PC builders, and that is something AMD want to capitalize on. If what we're hearing is true, then not only will the R9 Nano have the same core-config as the R9 Fury X, but also its price - US $649.99. At this price, the R9 Nano definitely isn't going to affect sales of the GTX 970 or GTX 980, which are currently going for as low as $299 and $465, respectively; but serve as a "halo product," targeted at SFF gaming PC builders.

Techpowerup said this card will be $649.99 USD that means when the card gets here it's going to be $800-850 wow we are screwed

I'm guessing a $150 mark up in price, but they always have a mark up here of at least $150-200 here
