AMD or Intel

Hey guys, is it worth going for a relative cheaper AM2 processor and then upgrade when the new AMD chips come out, or go Core 2.

My processor is in dire need of improvement and would like to replace it (as well as mobo and ram) with the next few weeks.

As much as it saddens me to say, C2D gives the most bang-per-buck at the moment :). However, AM2 CPUs are due for an imminent price reduction so if you do go for AM2 to tide you over for a few months then it certainly won't be a huge loss of money when upgrading to Barcelona.

its just that i can get a 5200+ for less than a 6300 (in AUSD, about $250 or i can geta 4600+ for $170), and than i have the option of upgrading without the need to upgrade mobo and ram again. How much better is a 6300 over a 4600+ or a 5200+.

any other opinions?

cheers. thanks for the help, i think i might go C2 after all as the difference for mobo cpu and ram is only AUD$77 between them.

if u really need that upgrade right now go C2D otherwise id wait, barcelona and penryn are coming very soon :yumyum:

Yeah C2D is where it's at now, but Intel's Penryn and AMD's 65nm Agena and Kuma processors aren't far away either. I'd personally wait, but if you have to upgrade now = C2D ;)

i've been waiting for the C2 chips to get cheap enough, but maybe i've waited too long. Anyway another couple of months shouldn't hurt. I'll be able save up some more cash and get a high end one so might be better off after all....cheers, i appreciate the help.
