Drop in replacements for existing Opteron builds I think. More power efficient equating to a proposed company $ saving. (oh yes and environment  )

As for new purchases, can`t see them being sold at a high volume outside of undercutting the Intel prices. Although if the power saving shows it`s $ value, even if they don`t smash Intel in terms of performance in benchmark examples, "doing the job" and saving a company $ is a selling point in itself. They`d have to do a long term study on that and present it.

Performance for the desktop`er, no.

Now I didn't actually say that did I ;)

Could AMD only give samples to people who will give them good reviews?

Well they are finally here.

I would say that it is early days for these processors and it will take a while for them to settle and be fine tuned.

The Intel processors have been out for some time and they have already gone through this process.

I do like AMD processors as they are pretty cost effective, or were in the past.

I am looking forward to doing the same aproach on a new build with one processor (4core) for now and adding another later on.

I built my dual Athlon MP system over 7 yrs ago and it still knocks the socks of many of the systems of today. Not bad for a life span 5 yrs :worship:
