AMD & Intel Delay Full DDR3 Transition

Does this mean the release of the AM3 Phenom II, which was scheduled for next month is off?

Yep (says it in the article). Looks like it'll be much later in the year now.

Read this earlier on. Seems like a good idea imo, especially considering people will be reluctant to upgrade to a new architecture at this current time.

I'm confused. I thought the Penom II was the Phenom II - i.e. the ones already being sold in prebuild pcs.

In the same breathe, I thought AMD`s plan was that they would work in AM2 aswell as AM3 ?

Am I correct in assuming in that case that a separate AM2 & AM3 cpu was the plan ?

Oh and some1 get Gigabyte on the phone as they're apparently making the AM3 mobos !

Phenom IIs have two variations, the AM2+ modelS (920 and 940) which are currently on sale and a family of AM3 models (910, 925, some tri-cores, budget versions and eventually a 945). The AM3 models have DDR2 and DDR3controllers.

The bit of the article I am struggling with is the comments about the DDR3 controller. If the problems are with the controller I imagine that the AM3 Phenom IIs will be delayed. If the problem is with writing a BIOS that will allow the stable operation of DDR3 then is it a possibility that the AM3 Phenoms can be released for use on AM2+ motherboards or AM3 motherboards with DDR2 memory only?

omg dont say that webbo i dont have money to upgrade yet :o i still need them lol.

jokes aside, the ddr3 price need to go down *at least a little more*

also i have my toughts will the only ddr3 plataforms be really better than the nowadays ones that acept both? in terms of more adapted for only one memory type so it will work better? (this is a ridiculous question since obviously will, at least i hope) i also wonder if intel delay was only bcz of the high price of it, amd looks more sincere lol, nvm i just hope the dd3 memory go down a little.

soap.

Good good, DDR3 is too expensive to be honest. If it comes down to the same price as DDR2 was 6 months ago, I think a lot more people would be happy and willing to make the switch.

I feel like this is a little paradox. DDR3 isn't going to get cheaper until more people start buying it and there are more platforms for it, but most people aren't going to buy it until it gets cheaper. I'm just going to wait it out (which probably wont help either case...)
