AMD fx-8150 performance in games

There is clearly something wrong with your GPU. and do you have the latest BIOS with your mobo?

my 6990 with a 1090t can play BF3 at 2560x1600 with all max settings at well over 100fps.

I'm able to play Assassin's creed revelations on maxed out settings with a well over 60 fps, and that is a very visually demanding game but it doesnt stress the cpu nearly as much as BF3 for example. If the problem is my GPU, shouldn't i notice it there too?

Hello there.

I've been using my stock fx-8150 for two weeks or so and i must say that it performs like shit.

I'm using an MSI 7970 with it, just clocked in CCC to 1125/1575.

This is a very capable GPU and i doubt that the questionable framerate and performance i get in games is because of my GPU.

I have to set BF3 to medium or even low to be able to maintain a solid 60fps. And skyrim with the 8 core bulldozers is just a joke. I'm running like 40 fps with all settings on high which is no where near acceptable.

It's not a good feeling having my mate running bf3 at over a 100 fps constantly with a stock 560 ti and a 2500k while im struggling to maintain 60 on mediuim settings.

Do you think that this is simply the CPU lacking performance? I know that the rest of my components is well capable of performing way better than this. And im positive that it's not a driver or software related issue.

It has come to the point where I'm considering just buying a sabertooth x58 and a 2600k or something along those lines just to get rid of this shit.

What are your opinions? Does anyone have similar problems or experience?

I might be posting in the wrong section of this forum, and if the moderators consider this thread being inappropriate - i'll gladly remove it.

Thanks in advance.

I have done testing on standard 8150 vs i7 950 vs i5 2500k with a 6870 and a gtx560ti and the change in cpu's made no difference to frame rates in BF3.

I think bf3 must be limited by gpu, strange that yours would give such low framerates though.

If its not drivers/software, the only other variables I could think of would be gpu or motherboard being issues?

No idea about Skyrim though as I dont play the game on pc.

BF3 barely taxes a cpu. Their is no difference between cpu's above i3 2130's in this game.

This sure is weird. I guess it's the GPU that's the problem then.

Obviously the 7970 doesnt lack the performance, something must be wrong.

As i mentioned earlier, AC revelations runs perfectly at the highest possible settings, and this must be almost equally demanding as BF3 where i barely get 35 fps if i use ultra.

It's weird that certain games run perfectly and other games are barely playable.

Oo i am pretty sure the more CPU Mhz the better it runs , of course not like

but more like

Check if the core clock isnt stuck running at 501MHz like I had. For some reason the drivers caused it to run at that, mightve been flash applets getting it stuck at that as well. See if the core speed goes up to its max as it should.

bf3 not a cpu heavy game, sorry i cant type for the pee running down my leg.

i know 1 thing for sure, my 25k@4.5ghz is giving me much more fps from my 460 than either my old core 2 quad or amd x4 could but i guess its nothing to do with the faster cpu at all...

It seems like this is the case, massive thanks for that observation.

I'm checking around for people with the same issue, and it seems like a few people had the same issue with the latest version of CCC (12.2), this obiously results in terrible performance.

Does anyone know how i can solve this? Just download an earlier version of CCC?

I saw someone mentioning that the browser somehow sets the clock down to 501mhz, and this seems to be true.

I ran a heaven benchmark without my browser running and it performed perfectly fine and scored around 2.1k with the clock running at 1125 as it should.

But the clock is stuck at 501 mhz when i opened my browser in the background when i ran heaven for the second time - scoring just below half. This would explain why its just in BF3 that makes my fps is this bad, since the battlelog is browser based.

It seems to have something to do with flash based applications in the browser locking the core clock at 501 mhz and the memory clock at 1375 mhz.

Edit: I've been playing BF3 while carefully monitoring my memory and core clock, they both run stable at 1125 / 1575, with the same horrible FPS.
