AMD have announced the R9 Fury Nano GPU, a GPU with HBM memory 2x the performance per watt of Hawaii.

Looks like the shroud is one with the bracket... will these reference cards be watercooling friendly?

Almost definitely, especially with the single slot ports. I would imagine there will be some nice thin solutions with IO plate replacements included. Should be fun for SFF watercooling.

Let's see what the Nano actually is.

The sad thing is that I don't have enough money to buy the new PC in time for Skylake release... :(

Probably cut the clocks right down to meet the performance per watt quoted.

That card is quite a mistery... looks like it's completely different from anything ever announced

I doubt it has a full Fiji chip, but in tha case it will probably have way lower frequencies ( I suspect ~700 MHz ) and a fairly binned chip, with low voltages.

I'm glad AMD have something to compete against the tiny 970 cards as it should help push small gpus and small form factors

Now I hope for more effort in drivers.

Drivers aren't bad. Better than Nvidia as of late. Only thing AMD have done is pretty much put off frequent driver releases lately most likely due to Fiji and giving it more time in development. They have only been releasing beta drivers but it's been 1 driver every 2-3 months which tbh isn't that bad. It may be Beta drivers but there's little to no glaring issues unlike Nvidia's current problem(unless they fixed it) of driver stopped displaying.

Regarding this Nano, It may be performance per watt of 2x, but that doesn't mean they cut power down to half of hawaii.. it could simply be 2x the performance at the same TDPs. I suspect the latter but it doesn't bother me tbh

AMD has still driver issues, mainly on the performance side. GCN still has huge potential, I'm sure there is more headroom to unlock with better drivers. For crossfire too, since nvidia still has the lead on multi gpu profiles and latencies

The Nano can't have a 275W TDP with such a small heatsink, just impossible ( or 20k rpm fan )

AMDs only problem with drivers issues is the optimization with taking up to much CPU time.. or so that's what people are claiming.. I've had my GPU for 3 years and not once have I ever had an issue. It's really more user error than anything imho.

Sure the Nano can;) Just doesn't make it the smart choice^_^

I've already written waht the Nano will be, imho

AMD announced a few months ago they would be investing more in software engineers which will sort out the drivers

The single card drivers are pretty much on par/better than Nvidia now. They don't nerf older cards either. 2+ cards are getting there (especially really recently) but still not as good as Nvidia.

Doesn't look like this in some recent releases... like Witcher 3 and GTA V launch issues

They just don't have the money to make drivers like nvidia, frequent releases and day one-ready updates (sadly)

Hope they can regain some market share with 300s/Furys. Can't wait to see reviews ( does Tom know anything about new cards sent to reviewers? )

p.s.: looks like R9 Fury Nano will have a single 8 pin connector

Nah GTA V was fine for the most part in most people's experiences (mobile GPUs notwithstanding..). I should know as I ran my knackered 7870 with it for a bit when my Ti decided to try and kill itself. The Witcher is a Game works title and there is a bit of controversy around the whole thing. The most recent drivers are supposedly excellent.

I can't express how much want I have for this card, it was the only card at the conference I wanted to know more about, 2X (ex ) the performance per Watt! one thing that is apparent is that nvidia now have competition again and AMD came aggressive and armed to the teeth.

May not be as frequent as of late.. but at least they still don't have issues like Nvidia currently does. More doesn't necessarily make it better. Only issues with Witcher 3 was on Nvidia cards on a Nvidia gameworks title. AMD was fine.. GTA V had both companies releasing a launch day driver. Wasn't that much wrong with it tbh, well polished game. AMD drivers are on par if not better as of late and to not think so is just people having that way of thinking from 3-4 years ago when AMD was clearly lacking.. I found since 12.11 first came out(proper driver for GCN) it really made everything better and from then on they have only gotten better in my experience.
