AMD FreeSync support is coming to Linux

AMD FreeSync support will be coming to both their Linux open and closed source drivers in the future, with plans to continue to improve both their stability and performance on Linux in the future.

In the future, I wonder if they will be able to have a standard where to support ASync, the hardware in the monitor would just need to support it and the user could either turn it off or on in the OSD and it would just work with DP1.3(for example) and no drivers would be needed the monitor would do the work? Would simplify things down for consumers who are iffy on this technology. Especially in laptops if it just worked out of the box.
