AMD FreeSync may be coming to TVs in the Future

This is great news for me. I've been looking for a decent upgrade for my gaming HTPC but options are pretty slim. Having Freesync at the larger sizes would definitely be helpful.

I thought that if TV's went to using displayport as a standard that this would just happen by default (with the correct syncing range support from the manufacturer)? Or was I wrong?

Remember that FreeSync can also work through HDMI now, so it doesn't even need to be changed to DisplayPort.

I do find it strange that HDMI is used on TVs, given that it is a royalty based standard. DP is Royalty free if they are a VESA member.

All FreeSync/VESA Adaptive sync needs to work is a hardware scaler in the monitor that is compatible. This is certainly something that companies should be considering moving forward, especially since they already need to upgrade for HDR support.

Samsung is already supporting FreeSync on most of their new displays, so FreeSync on their future Televisions is a possibility. It is just the chicken and egg scenario that prevents this from being a thing.

Does displayport have HDCP ?

That's true although it would definitely take a while. If it did catch on, would really hope services like DTV would adopt them for there cable boxes and so on and so forth. Would make sport channels look much more fluid
